Why do cats step on people's milk?

What does it mean when my cat always steps on me?

Cat lovers often find that cats, especially kittens, always love to step on various places, and they seem to enjoy it while stepping on the milk. In fact, to be honest, not only do cats enjoy it, but I also enjoy it when cats step on my milk. It feels like a free massage technician, haha. So why do cats always love to step on their owners? Why do cats do this? Feng Lijiang, a senior cat slave, will tell you~

1. Kitten memory (muscle memory)

Cats have been kneading milk since they were young. When they were young and breastfeeding, they would lie on their mother's belly and use their paws to massage around their mother's vagina to promote milk secretion.

This behavior will make the cat retain this habit of movement after weaning because of comfort or seeking safety. I once fed a stray cat like this. Every time I fed it, it would step on the milk in place, which was super cute.

2. Adult cats miss their mothers

Many cats will leave their mothers and find their own homes when they are two or three months old. Cats will also remember their mothers’ tenderness, and by stepping on their mothers’ milk, they will imagine that they are still in their mothers’ arms, which will satisfy them, and some will even purr comfortably.

Our cat does the same thing, but unfortunately he steps on my head. I don’t know why. Is the owner’s head so safe?

3. The cat feels very relaxed and is spending time in a comfortable way

The way for cat owners to relax may be to lie on the bed or sofa and think about nothing or do something they like. The same is true when cats knead milk. Generally, they will do this when they feel safe.

I really like cats kneading milk. Firstly, I think cats are really happy in their own home. Secondly, watching cats kneading milk makes me feel relaxed.

Note: Be sure to pay attention to the cat's long claws. If necessary, you can trim the claws before letting the cat step on the milk. Sharp claws may accidentally scratch the owner, and it is also easy to damage clothes or curtains.
