CATDOLL: What are the methods to keep silkworms alive? (What are the methods to keep silkworms alive?)

1. What should we pay attention to when raising silkworms?

In addition to mulberry leaves, you can also eat the leaves of the thorn tree. This is my personal experience. When I was a child, I raised silkworms. There were few mulberry trees in the village, and there were many children. There was not enough to share.

Later, I heard from adults that the leaves of the jujube tree could also be used, so I picked a lot and brought it back and fed it to the insects until they formed cocoons.

The whole process was normal, and it was said that the cocoons were made faster and in more colors (the silkworms raised at that time all had colorful cocoons, mainly yellow, orange, orange-red, and white). However, there is no statistics on whether the cocoons were made faster.

) The questioner can also see that the mulberry tree looks like this. One of the important reasons why people use mulberry leaves to raise silkworms is that this tree has many thorns and its leaves are not easy to collect. Therefore, even if it may be better than mulberry leaves, it will not be used on a large scale.

Especially for those who raise silkworms on a large scale, the silkworms have an astonishing appetite before going up the mountain, and it is impossible to feed them with only the leaves of the mulberry tree.

There is no way to promote the use of Zheci leaves, and as time goes by, no one uses them anymore. Mulberry leaves are basically the only raw material for raising silkworms.

In addition, it is said that there is another kind of leaves that can also be used to raise silkworms - castor leaves, but I haven't tried it. Castor looks like this, a bit like Datura (poisonous), but the questioner can try it.

2. How to raise silkworms using oak trees?

In the tussah silkworm farm, most of the leaves are eaten by the silkworms every year. If the silkworm farm is not well managed, the nutrient accumulation will be reduced and the growth will be poor. We must protect the silkworm farm well, so as to raise silkworms, protect the mountains and trees.

(1) Tree care: To ensure the tree's vigor and recovery, the silkworms should be fed with controlled amounts of leaves. During the young silkworm stage, the required amount of leaves eaten is 2/5, while during the adult silkworm stage, the required amount of leaves eaten is 1/2, to prevent the silkworms from eating all the leaves.

(2) Mountain maintenance: When clearing the site, remove the weeds, remove the trunks and weak branches of oak trees that are close to the ground, and keep the grass in the site. Do not shovel the turf to prevent soil erosion.

(3) Silkworm farms: There must be a dedicated person to take care of the silkworm farm. Destruction of the silkworm farm by cutting down trees indiscriminately, burning the land for grazing, or otherwise damaging the silkworm farm is strictly prohibited.

(4) Replanting: Acorns or oak trees should be planted in the vacant land and areas with missing plants or stumps in the tussah silkworm farm to improve the utilization rate of the site.

(5) Update: The update period is from the end of November of the previous year to the end of March of the following year.

3. How to raise silkworms at home?

After receiving the silkworm seeds, place them in the prepared silkworm rearing box. The silkworm box can generally be an ordinary paper box, but it must be kept clean and odorless. From the day the silkworm seeds are shipped out of the warehouse, they will naturally hatch into silkworms in about 11 days (including the delivery time) at room temperature of 21-29 degrees Celsius. Silkworms will have an appetite about 40 minutes after hatching, and the feeding process should begin at this time. Take the prepared fresh tender mulberry leaves out of the refrigerator, wait for the mulberry leaves to return to room temperature, cut them into small pieces with a knife and put them in the silkworm box. The silkworms will automatically climb onto the mulberry leaves to eat. It usually takes about 27 days (divided into 5 ages) for silkworms to hatch and cocoon on the mountain. It is advisable to use tenderer mulberry leaves for feeding silkworms from the first to third ages, and ordinary mulberry leaves for silkworms from the fourth and fifth ages. Silkworms are suitable for growing in an environment with a temperature range of 22-29 degrees Celsius, and the most suitable growth temperature is about 27 degrees Celsius. A silkworm eats about 25 grams of mulberry leaves in its lifetime. For example, if you want to feed 40 silkworms, you only need 1 kg of mulberry leaves. However, in the actual feeding process, some mulberry leaves will be wasted, so more mulberry leaves will be needed. After the fifth instar, silkworms will stop eating mulberry leaves and start looking for a suitable place to spin silk and make cocoons (also called going up the mountain to make cocoons). In rural areas, straw-bound grass hills or pine branches are generally used as silkworm hills. For silkworms fed as pets, a paper box divided into many small compartments can be used instead. Precautions for raising silkworms 1. Keep mulberry leaves fresh 1. Place mulberry leaves in the refrigerator (about 5 degrees Celsius) to prevent deterioration. 2. Tighten the plastic bag to slow down the drying and dehydration time of mulberry leaves. 2. Feeding silkworms 1. Take out the mulberry leaves from the refrigerator and wait for a few minutes for the mulberry leaves to return to room temperature before feeding. 2. Do not wash the mulberry leaves with water and keep them in a natural state. 3. For feeding the second-instar silkworms, please choose tenderer mulberry leaves, 1-2 pieces per day. 4. The feeding time can be chosen in the morning or at noon. 3. Other matters needing attention 1. Do not catch silkworms with your hands, use the soft bristles of a brush to drive them away; 2. Clean the silkworm room every day; 3. The silkworm room should be placed in a cool place (around 25 degrees Celsius).

4. How to raise silkworms?

To raise silkworms, you should start with silkworm eggs. First, find a clean paper box to put the silkworm eggs in. After the silkworm eggs hatch, you can feed them with tender mulberry leaves. At the beginning, they don’t eat much and their feces are not much, so you can clean them every one or two days. As their appetite increases, you need to clean the mulberry leaf residues and feces every day.

When the silkworm's body becomes transparent, you should prepare the grid for spinning silk and making cocoons.

After the cocoons are made, you can wait for the silkworms to emerge and mate. At this time, prepare white paper for the silkworms to mate and lay eggs. Finally, collect the silkworm eggs and store them for hatching next spring.

5. How should silkworms be raised?

Hatching method: When raising silkworms, you should choose silkworm eggs with smooth particles and black and bright color, then wrap the silkworm eggs with toilet paper, and place them in a warm environment. The ambient temperature should be adjusted to around 25°C to promote the rapid hatching of the silkworms. After waiting for more than a day, you can transfer the hatched silkworms to the box.

Feeding management: Mulberry leaves are the main food for silkworms. When raising silkworms, they must be fed once every morning, and mulberry leaves need to be purchased from the forest.

6. How to raise silkworms well and how to manage large-scale breeding?

When I was a child, every household in my town raised silkworms every year. First, we managed the mulberry trees well to ensure that there were enough mulberry trees for the silkworms to eat from March to November. Second, we cleaned up the silkworm feces and mulberry leaves and disinfected the silkworm room every time the silkworms spit out silk and formed alkali. Disinfection with lime powder must be in place to prepare for the next silkworm sleep from the silkworm eggs to each silkworm sleep, that is, the silkworms sleep and shed their shells to grow up again. During this period when the silkworms are not sleeping and wake up, the silkworms that are obviously much smaller than others are picked out in time to ensure that each silkworm is of uniform size. After the last sleep, the silkworms grow the fastest and eat the most mulberry leaves in their lives. We feed the silkworms with enough mulberry leaves. At this time, the silkworms' bodies grow from the size of toothpicks to almost the size of fingers. When their bodies change from light blue to golden yellow, they stop eating mulberry leaves and start spinning silk. When some silkworms turn golden yellow, they are fed with the last meal of mulberry leaves with a ripening agent to ensure that each silkworm spins silk at the same time.
