CATDOLL: How to keep a snail alive after picking it up (How to keep a snail alive after picking it up)

1. I picked up a big snail in the mountains today. How should I take care of it? Is it poisonous?

Snails like to live in a dark, humid, loose and humus-rich environment. They are active at night and hide during the day. They are most afraid of direct sunlight and are sensitive to the environment. The most suitable environment for them is: temperature 16-30℃ (growth and development are fastest at 23-30℃); air humidity 60%-90%; breeding soil humidity about 40%; pH 5-7.

When the temperature is below 15℃ and above 33℃, it will hibernate. When it is below 5℃ or above 40℃, it may be frozen to death or heat-killed. However, different types of snails are different. Snails like to burrow into loose humus soil to live, lay eggs, regulate body humidity and absorb some nutrients, which can last up to 12 hours. They are both omnivorous and partial eaters. They like humidity and are afraid of flooding. On humid nights, if wet food is thrown into the snails, their appetite will be active. But flooding can suffocate the snails. They survive by themselves. As soon as the baby snails hatch, they will crawl and eat without the care of the mother. When invaded by enemies, their heads and feet will retract into the shell and secrete mucus to seal the shell mouth; when the shell is damaged and disabled, it can secrete certain substances to repair the flesh and shell. They have strong tolerance. Snails have amazing survival ability and have strong tolerance to cold, heat, hunger and drought. They like constant temperature breeding. The temperature is constant between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius, and the growth, development and reproduction are vigorous. When the snail crawls, it will leave a line of mucus on the ground. This is a liquid secreted by its body, so it will not be dangerous even if it walks on the edge of a knife.

2. I picked up a small snail in the grass. Can I keep it alive? How to keep it alive? How long does it take to grow up? Is it easy to keep? Please give me more details?

I'm happy to answer this question, I hope it can help you~

[Care of pet snails - <One> - Basics of life]

1./Cultivation vessels.

Transparent plastic boxes are best for breeding snails. The size is mainly determined by the volume of the pet snails, and they should be given enough living space (as shown in Figure 1, air holes should be left on the lid of the box).

2./Living environment.

Spread a layer of soil on the bottom of the box. It is best to plant some moss or put in a few pebbles. Try to completely imitate the snail's living environment in the wild. Spray the box with a spray bottle every day to keep it moist (as shown in Figure ②).

3./Snail recipe.

Pet snails are different from commercial snails. You don't need to buy special feed. You can feed them clean fruits and vegetables. Snails like to eat tender cabbage and tender cucumber hearts the most. These two foods are essential. Never feed snails salty foods, nor spicy foods such as leeks, peppers, onions, garlic, ginger, etc.

4./Special tips.

Snails are afraid of salt and prefer cool, humid and low-light places. Do not place them directly in the sun. Snails like moisture but are afraid of water. Do not soak them in water.

3. How to raise the ordinary small snails picked up after the rain?

This should be a native snail in my country. I remember when I was a kid, this snail was crawling everywhere after it rained, and it disappeared quickly after the weather cleared up.

4. How to take care of the small snails you picked up?

The wild snails you pick up need to be kept in a moist, cool place, with a temperature of 16-30 degrees and a humidity of 60%. They should be fed with vegetables and fruits on a daily basis, and kept away from the sun and salt. Snails are prone to death when exposed to salt and sunlight. They can be kept in a transparent, sealed, breathable glass container, with some sterilized soil spread on the bottom of the container, and the soil should be sprayed with water regularly using a spray bottle.

You can feed wild snails vegetable leaves, fruit pulp and peels, such as cabbage and watermelon peels. Just rinse the leaves and peels before feeding. Note that snails cannot touch salt, and salty foods cannot be used for feeding. The body of a snail is made of water. Once it encounters salt, it will quickly dehydrate and die.

5. What should the snails I picked up on the ground eat and how should I raise them?

When you buy vegetables, try to choose fresher green vegetables, such as pakchoi, Shanghai greens, etc. The tenderer the better. Wash these vegetables clean and it is best to soak them first, because these vegetables are sprayed with a lot of pesticides. Then shake off the water a little, but don't rub them too dry, as snails like a slightly humid environment. Then put the green vegetables in a small basin, preferably with a lid (to prevent it from escaping), but with air holes, otherwise the snail will be suffocated. Then put the snail on the vegetables. If the vegetables are not fresh, you can change them. Don't put too much, as it can't eat much. This way you can give it a warm home!
