CATDOLL: Tips and tricks for raising earthworms (What are the tips and tricks for raising earthworms)

1. How to breed earthworms?

1. Breeding methods: generally divided into three methods: ecological breeding, three-dimensional breeding and greenhouse breeding.

Ecological breeding includes arable land breeding, forest land breeding and trench breeding; three-dimensional breeding includes multi-layer cement frame breeding, overlapping breeding box breeding, tank breeding, louvered box breeding and nylon net bed frame breeding; greenhouse breeding is divided into greenhouse breeding and solar greenhouse breeding. Among them, arable land breeding and greenhouse breeding can grow crops such as grain, vegetables and fruit trees at the same time, killing two birds with one stone; three-dimensional breeding can obtain more earthworms; greenhouse breeding has a fast reproduction speed; ecological breeding and greenhouse breeding are low in cost and each has its own advantages. You can choose the breeding method according to your own breeding purpose.

2. Breeding pond setting.

Generally, the depth of the breeding box and ditch should be kept at 30-50 cm, not too deep. The width and length are not limited. It is advisable to use a site with convenient drainage and irrigation. Keep the filling material moist and prohibit water accumulation. You can fill it with decomposed cow dung, pig dung and other manure, or rotten leaves and forest soil. The surface can also be covered with a layer of farm soil.

3. Choose a suitable earthworm species and put in an appropriate amount of earthworm seed.

There are many varieties of earthworms, but they should be selected according to the purpose of breeding. For example, anglers like small earthworms, and if the earthworms are too thick, they will not work. The general price of earthworms is between 3-15 yuan, and 2-3 kilograms can be raised in 1 square meter. Generally, half an acre of land is needed to raise earthworms, and 700-900 kilograms can be raised. The number of earthworms should not be too large, otherwise it will cause the organic matter to be consumed too quickly, and the earthworms will escape after rapid reproduction.

4. The method of feeding.

The feed must be decomposed leaves, grass, fruit, vegetable leaves, kitchen scraps, manure, etc. In order to speed up the fermentation, urea, EM bacteria, etc. can be added for rapid fermentation, and then fish meal and bone meal can be added for feeding. The more times the earthworms are fed, the faster they grow and reproduce.

It is better to feed small amounts of bait multiple times. Generally, the remaining bait should be cleaned up once every 15 days or so. It should not be piled up for a long time, but the remaining bait should not be cleaned up all at once either, so that the earthworms can find their own holes, otherwise it will cause the earthworms to escape.

5. Effectively regulate temperature, humidity and light.

Earthworms are sensitive to temperature, humidity and light, and have very strict requirements. Earthworms prefer warm, humid and cool environments. The breeding site needs to be shaded as necessary, and only needs 2-3 hours of light a day at most. Earthworms grow well in an environment of 20-30℃. In the hot season, you can cover it with a layer of straw to reduce the temperature and increase the humidity; in the cold season, cover it with mulch, straw curtains, arch sheds, etc. to increase the temperature; in spring, summer and autumn, you need to maintain a high soil humidity, preferably without water accumulation. If the surface turns white, you need to spray or water it to ensure the normal growth and feeding of earthworms.

6. Collection method.

Indoor breeding generally uses strong light to drive away earthworms, and the earthworms will gather in the lower layer of the breeding bed or in the container under the screen. In the wild, the food trap method is generally used, and rotten fruits are put in. After 2-3 days, the earthworms will gather in the fruits.

2. How to raise earthworms well?

1. Artificial earthworm breeding equipment is simple and easy to manage. Generally, medicinal earthworms can be cultivated in the open space in front of and behind the house, in the courtyard, as well as old wooden boxes, waste barrels, pots, bamboo baskets, brick pools, seedling hotbeds, etc. It can also be combined with vegetable fields, orchards, nurseries, etc. to cultivate earthworms, which can benefit from dual utilization.

2. Choose different varieties of earthworms according to different regions, needs and conditions. Generally, choose those that are easy to raise and reproduce and suitable for local soil and climate conditions. For example, in areas with many vegetable gardens, orchards and nurseries, green earthworms can be cultivated and combined with field planting. This can improve soil fertility, promote plant production and harvest earthworm animal protein feed.

3. The breeding method of earthworms can be determined according to the habits and uses of earthworms. There are three main types of breeding: indoor breeding, field breeding and factory-scale breeding. Put the base material into wooden boxes, bamboo baskets, porcelain basins or brick pools, and then put the earthworms in for breeding. During the breeding period, spray water frequently to maintain a humidity of 60% to 70% (generally, it is better to squeeze them into balls by hand and let them spread out), and cover them with straw mats, straw curtains and old sacks to block light. They can grow normally at temperatures between 13 and 28 degrees Celsius.

4. Use the air-raid shelter breeding method: Urban air-raid shelters are basements, which are warm in winter and cool in summer, and the surrounding humidity is high, which is suitable for breeding red earthworms. The breeding method is the same as box breeding and pit breeding. You can light a lamp at night to prevent escape and provide a certain light source that is conducive to the growth of earthworms.

3. What is the simplest way to breed earthworms?

Earthworms in pots

The feed should be 3/4 of the height of the basin, and about 100 to 200 earthworms should be placed in each basin. Because the basin is small, the humidity and temperature in the basin are greatly affected by the environment, such as the feed is easy to dry, and the temperature changes significantly.

Therefore, under the premise of ensuring ventilation, the mouth of the basin can be covered with plastic film, and water should be sprayed frequently to maintain the appropriate humidity of the feed in the basin.

4. What is the best way to breed earthworms?

When raising earthworms, you must first choose a suitable environment and keep them in a dark and cool environment. The breeding container can be a wooden box, a clay pot, a ground trough, etc., filled with surface soil,

Livestock manure, wood powder, grass, wine lees, etc. should be placed in a dark place, the soil temperature should be kept at around 15-25℃, the humidity should be greater than 60-80%, and water should be sprinkled frequently to maintain good humidity. Some rotten melons, fruits, and vegetables should be sprinkled regularly, and residues and waste should be removed in time. The soil should be changed at least once a year.

5. How to breed earthworms? How to prevent them from escaping?

1. According to the size of the container you put the earthworms in, the earthworms take up 1/4, the mud takes up 2/4, and leave 1/4 space. In this way, the earthworms have enough space and soil. Even if you cover the lid and put it in a cool place for a week, they will not die or escape. 2. If there are many earthworms and they need to be kept for a long time, the container should be slightly larger. It is difficult to find a lid for a large container, and earthworms are easy to escape. It is not difficult to solve this problem. You can put a layer of grass on the soil in the container. If there is no grass, you can cover the soil with a wet cloth. When the cloth is dry, sprinkle some water on it to make the cloth wet, which can effectively prevent the earthworms from escaping. 3. Another way is to put the container with earthworms in the center of a basin filled with clean water, so that the container is surrounded by water (the amount of water should be enough to prevent the container with earthworms from floating). It is best to change the water in the basin once a day, which is both hygienic and can maintain a lower water temperature, and is more conducive to preventing earthworms from escaping. Even if the earthworms escape from the container, they will never "swim across the river". If you find earthworms in the basin the next day, put them back in the container. This will effectively prevent the earthworms from escaping.
