CATDOLL: What can you do with snails?

1. What is the use of raising snails?

Farmed snails have edible, medicinal and health-care value. Outdoor open-type snail farming models include trench, shed, and courtyard, allowing them to grow and reproduce in a protective circle similar to natural conditions; indoor artificial snail farming should choose a leeward open space, use bamboo or steel bars to build a 20-meter, 3-meter-wide, and 2-meter-high breeding shed, and cover the shed with plastic film.

2. What is the use of raising snails?

Snails have high nutritional value, low cost, and a variety of uses. They can be made into food, health products, and skin care products, with high economic benefits.

3. What are the uses of African snails?

1. Edible value: processed into canned food.

2. Commercial value: processed into feed or additives.

3. Medicinal value: Various biological enzymes can be extracted from snails.

In addition, the mucus secreted by snails is rich in proteases and can be widely used in the field of cosmetics and health products. Snail secretions contain many effective ingredients that can heal wounds, peel off dead skin and soften skin, including allantoin, collagen, elastin, glycolic acid, natural antibacterial peptides and vitamins A, C and E.

Among them, allantoin can act as a skin softener and antioxidant; collagen and elastin are the main structural proteins that can make the skin more elastic; and natural antimicrobial peptides can eliminate bacteria on the surface of human skin and in the pores, improve skin immunity, and heal damaged skin tissue.

4. What are the main uses of snail farming?

For food: Snail is a high-protein, low-fat food. 100 grams of snail meat usually contains 18 grams of protein, 5 grams of fat, and 7 grams of carbohydrates. In addition, snail meat also contains rich amino acids, calcium, alkaloids, phenols, lactone, coumarin, organic acids, vitamins and other substances.

As feed: The digestive enzymes in snails can promote the decomposition and conversion of feed by livestock.

As decoration: snail shells can be processed into various shell carvings.

5. How can snail farming make money?

At present, the country strongly supports the development of agriculture, and there are many loans to support personal entrepreneurship, which has led to a trend of many rural people who do not want to work outside and go home to start their own businesses. Zhou Zhou's home in Dazhou Village, Chengguan Town, Yunmeng County, Hubei Province, has a breeding room of more than 100 square meters, in which rows of cement piles similar to drawers are neatly arranged. Gently open it, and inside is the carefully cultivated white jade snail. The white jade snail is also known as the Chinese white jade snail. It has tender meat, low fat, and very high protein content. It has many advantages such as simple breeding, easy to obtain feed, high reproduction rate, low morbidity, and strong hunger resistance. It can be said that breeding white jade snails is a breeding project that takes up less labor, does not occupy arable land, has low cost, and high returns.

Zhou Zhou, 32 years old this year, is a villager of Dazhou Village, Chengguan Town, Yunmeng County. He has worked as a plasterer in Northeast China for 10 years. When he returned home for the Spring Festival in 2011, he saw live snails for sale in Wuhan Aquatic Products Wholesale Market by chance and became interested. He went online to search for information and knowledge about snails and learned that the market prospects were promising and there was no breeding base in Hubei. Afterwards, he visited relevant bases across the country and visited snail farmers one by one to get a clear understanding of all aspects of snail breeding and sales. He saw that there were many idle laborers and houses in the village. If these resources could be revitalized, it would not only increase the income of the villagers, but also create more favorable conditions for breeding snails.

In March 2013, Zhou Zhou, who had returned home from an inspection and study trip, started to build a snail breeding house in the old bungalow at home. He invested 30,000 yuan in the first phase and bought 3,000 breeding snails. One month later, the first batch of white jade snails began to breed in Zhou Zhou's breeding house. At the beginning, due to lack of experience, the first breeding cattle introduced were not effective, and the road to snail hatching was very difficult and failed repeatedly. In October 2013, Zhou Zhou went to many places in Zhejiang to learn and explore snail breeding and hatching methods. Later, he found successful experience in constant exploration. Zhou Zhou learned and practiced at the same time, and practice proved that he was successful. In 2014, he sold 15,000 kilograms of finished snails with sales of 100,000 yuan.

In December 2015, Zhou Zhou registered and established the Yunmeng Yifeng Snail Ecological Breeding Professional Cooperative, which adopted the "company + farmer" operation model, promoted the development and growth of the snail industry, introduced 5 breeders, employed more than 10 people, and achieved monthly sales of up to 500,000 yuan. In September 2016, the Dazhou Village Poverty Alleviation Industrial Park in Chengguan Town, Yunmeng County was put into use. Snail breeding has achieved a transformation from scattered breeding by poor households to centralized breeding, and the scale effect continues to emerge. So far, it has helped 5 poor households get out of poverty.

"To raise snails, we need to control the temperature and humidity. When raising snails indoors, the best temperature is 25 degrees Celsius, and the humidity of the air is kept at 70%-80%. A snail breeder lays eggs four times a year, 150-300 eggs each time, with a survival rate of over 90%. After hatching, they can be sold after four months of breeding. Each pond can produce three batches of snails each year." Zhou Zhou introduced, "The demand for white jade snails is huge, and the value is relatively high. Our cooperative has an average monthly sales of about 150,000 yuan."

The above is the case of Zhou Zhou getting rich by breeding white jade snails. From the current point of view, the market for breeding white jade snails is still relatively good, with little investment, low risk and high return. Moreover, white jade snails are terrestrial molluscs with high edible, medicinal and health value, and can also be made into cosmetics. Friends who want to breed must combine Zhou Zhou's experience, investigate the actual local situation, master the relevant breeding techniques, and don't blindly follow the trend.

6. What is the purpose of keeping snails in fish tanks?

Snails can be placed in fish tanks. A small number of snails can help clean some algae on the surface of aquatic plants and the walls of the tank, but not too many.
