CATDOLL: What is the name of the soil for raising earthworms? (What is the name of the soil for raising earthworms?)

1. What kind of soil is used to raise earthworms?

There are many choices for the base material of earthworms. The best is fermented cow dung, which turns black. If you think it is unhygienic, you can also choose softer garden soil. You can also mix shredded horse dung paper or straw paper soaked in water with garden soil, or mix garden soil with some sawdust.

2. Can coconut bran be used to raise earthworms?

No. Coconut soil is mainly made from wood cellulose, which is the outer shell of coconut. It is a widely used substrate and soil conditioner with good moisture retention and air permeability.

Since earthworms prefer moist and acidic soil, and coconut soil itself has a relatively high salt content and is insufficient in nutrients for earthworms, although they can survive in it, earthworms still need sufficient acidity and other nutrients for their growth.

Coconut soil can be mixed with soil, manure, rotten leaves, etc. to become the soil needed by earthworms. In our rural hometown, some people use fruit peels, rotten fruits, and rapeseed cakes left after rapeseed oil extraction, mash them into pieces and mix them into the soil. The earthworms reproduce very quickly. It is nutritious and easily degradable and is very suitable for the growth of earthworms.

3. Is cow dung or chicken dung better for raising earthworms?

Cow manure is better than chicken manure for raising earthworms. Earthworms mainly eat rotten plants, including plant roots, leaves, vegetable leaves, fruits, etc. When feeding, you need to wait until the food is fully decomposed before feeding. Earthworms will not eat fresh, undecomposed food. In the natural environment, earthworms will also eat poultry manure and livestock manure. Earthworms are omnivorous animals. In the natural environment, earthworms mainly eat bacteria in the soil, rotten plant roots and leaves.

4. What kind of soil is used to mail earthworms?

Natural terrestrial earthworms generally like to live in moist, loose soil rich in organic matter. When packing earthworms, you can consider leaf mold and garden soil as the main soil. You can usually use a spray bottle to spray the soil with water (keep the soil 30% to 50% moist, that is, it feels a little moist). Earthworms have a sensitive sense of taste, like sweet and sour food, and hate bitter taste. Occasionally, you can soak some sugar or bury a few sugar grains to supplement their nutrition.

5. Can earthworms be raised directly with peanut bran?

A: Yes

Mix peanut bran and nutrient soil in a good proportion, maintain appropriate moisture and humidity, and the earthworms will reproduce very quickly.

When earthworms are raised in peanut bran nutrient soil, adult earthworms begin laying eggs every 7-8 days or so, with 1-3 eggs in each row. The earthworms will secrete mucus to wrap the eggs together, forming an egg cocoon that is half the size of a green bean, oval, and light yellow.

The egg cocoons are buried in the soil. After about 18-21 days, they begin to hatch into young earthworms. The newly hatched earthworms are milky white in appearance, turning pink after 2-3 days, and turning red when they grow to about 1 cm. They reach sexual maturity in about 42 days.

6. When breeding earthworms, is it better to use pig manure or cow manure?

Cow dung is better than pig dung for earthworm farming. The feed for earthworm farming is generally made of animal dung that has been fermented to a mature state, and then some wheat bran is added to make nutritious feed, which can be used to feed earthworms. Because cow dung is softer and more breathable than pig dung after fermentation, it is the most ideal way to farm earthworms.

7. What kind of soil is suitable for raising earthworms?

It is best to use earthworm soil when raising earthworms.

Earthworm soil is a pure natural granular material with good porosity and high water holding capacity. Its colors are generally black, khaki, red, etc. Its particles are relatively uniform. It is also a finely divided material with a natural earthy smell.

Earthworms must be kept at a certain moisture level. If it is too dry, they will die, and if it is too wet, they will not survive. The earthworm culture medium is composed of 60% poultry manure and 40% grass. We often see that after a heavy rain, a lot of rainwater seeps into the ground, and many earthworms are pulled out from the deep soil until they are dried and die. This is the reason. Generally, keep the culture medium until you can squeeze it into a ball with your hands but you can't squeeze out the water.
