What to feed artificially cultivated clams?

Clams are widely distributed in rivers, lakes, reservoirs, ponds and rice fields, and usually live in the mud at the bottom of the water. In the natural state, only the rear end of the body of the river clam is exposed from the mud, and the inlet and outlet pipes are often open to maintain the flow of water in the body and keep the normal life activities.

River clams usually live in shallow waters in clusters or bands, and prefer flowing, clean, fertile water. River clams are generally suitable for living in neutral or weakly acidic or weakly alkaline water, but different species have different requirements. The toothless clams and the pleated crown clams can live in water with a pH value between 5 and 9, while the triangular fan clams often need to live in water with a stable pH of 7 to 8. River clams do not require high dissolved oxygen, with a lower limit of about 3 mg/L, but if it is below this limit for a long time, river clams will die in large numbers. River clams have a strong resistance to drought. Generally, river clams buried in the soil will not die in about half a month of drought, but they will die in a few hours if exposed to the air, especially under the scorching sun in summer.

The main food of river clams is unicellular algae, protozoa and organic debris, such as rotifers, flagellates, green-eye worms, green algae, crustacean remains and plant leaves.

The clams have very weak mobility. When the environment is calm, they move by the ligaments, slightly open their shells, and slowly extend their axe feet. Usually, the axe feet extend to the front of the shell and fix on the mud, and then retract the body to move forward. This crawling is very slow, usually only a few centimeters in one minute.

If you raise them together with fish, you don't need to feed them at all (river clams grow up by eating fish feces). It's best to put some water plants. River clams like to eat algae and plankton! You can put some soy powder appropriately, not too much, just a little bit. River clams are a general term for a class of animals in the Unionidae family of the phylum Mollusca, distributed in freshwater lakes, rivers, and ponds in Asia, Europe, North America, and North Africa. The meat is edible and is also suitable as bait for fish and poultry and feed for poultry and livestock. In some areas, they are used as freshwater pearl clams, and the main ones used for pearl cultivation are the triangular sail clams and the pleated crown clams.

In some places, it is called a clam shell. It lives on the bottom of freshwater lakes, ponds, rivers, etc., half buried in mud and sand.

The water inlet and outlet pipes at the rear end of the body are exposed, and water can flow in and out of the mantle cavity, thereby completing functions such as eating, breathing, and excreting feces and metabolic products, and filtering microorganisms and organic particles in the water.
