Catfish is also called catfish. How to manage it well when breeding?

Catfish mainly live in the middle and lower layers of rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and ponds, and move along the coast. They start to move around in spring to look for food, but stop eating in winter. They hibernate in deep water or caves and will not swim unless disturbed by the outside world. For family breeding, the pond area is 15 mu, the pond depth is 2 meters, the water depth is 1.5 meters, and the pond bottom mud is about 10 centimeters.

Catfish mostly grow in the middle and lower layers of lakes and ponds. They have strong adaptability to the environment and can grow well even in harsh waters. They are scavenger fish that usually eat a lot but exercise little. They grow very fast. Generally, the further south they go, the shorter the catfish's growth cycle will be.

Farming management:

1. The most suitable water temperature for catfish growth is 10 to 25 degrees Celsius. During the breeding period, feed them with nutritious animal baits, such as chicken intestines, pig lungs, small fish, etc. Feed 2 to 3 times a day, and the feeding amount accounts for 7% to 8% of the fish body weight to ensure the nutritional requirements of gonadal development. In addition, pay attention to keeping the water fresh and flush the water 1 to 2 times a week.

2. Since catfish grow best in bushes, under rocks or deep water, and they frequently forage at night, ditch-pond breeding can be adopted. That is, at one end of the water inlet, dig a small pond that accounts for 5% to 10% of the total area of the rice field, with a slope ratio of 1:1. The water depth is 1 to 1.5 meters. Ring ditches and central ditches are set in the rice field according to the size of the rice field, with a width and depth of 60 cm each. The ditch is connected to the small pond. At the same time, the ridge is raised and reinforced.

3. Since catfish are susceptible to diseases, quicklime or bleaching powder should be sprayed throughout the pond every half a month during the breeding period to prevent fish diseases. Since catfish are scaleless fish, they are more sensitive to various drugs than scaled fish, especially insecticides containing trichlorfon, which should be used with caution in production practice.

The pond area for breeding catfish should be larger, and the water level should not be too shallow to provide a suitable growth environment for catfish. The height of the water plants in the pond should be appropriate, not too long or too short. The weeds in the pond should be cleaned regularly during the breeding process, and anti-escape facilities should be built around the pond to prevent catfish from escaping. The quality of water will directly affect the growth of catfish. During the breeding process, the water quality in the pond should be observed at any time. If the water quality deteriorates, the water should be changed immediately. Generally, the water should be changed every 15 days or so. If the water quality is good, only 30% of the water needs to be changed. Yellow-green water is normal water quality. If catfish often jump out of the water, it is because the water is too fertile and the oxygen content in the water is low. It is necessary to change the pool water immediately to improve the water quality. On hot and rainy days, oxygen should be added to the pool in time to prevent fish from dying due to lack of oxygen. Aquatic plants such as water lilies can be planted in the pond to improve water quality and provide shade for catfish.

During the breeding process, the feed should be reasonable, and the feed should not be too much each time, so as to avoid esophageal obstruction caused by catfish eating too much. In the fry stage, the feed should be chopped to facilitate the feeding and digestion of the young fish; granular feed can be added at 2 months of age, and some protein can be added to the feed to ensure nutritional balance. Catfish have weak disease resistance and are prone to illness. The most common is morbidity. Generally, the fry may be infected within less than a month after being released. The fry will have many blisters of different sizes, red and swollen fins, and then the catfish will slowly rot until death. During the breeding process, a certain proportion of quicklime or bleaching powder should be sprinkled in the pond regularly for disinfection, and some anti-disease drugs can be added to the feed.

When releasing fry, pay attention to size and density. Generally speaking, fish can be harvested after about 100 days of breeding. Before harvesting, drain the water in the pond, put some cages filled with feed into the pond or directly use fishing nets to catch. When harvesting, pay attention to raising smaller catfish in the pond for breeding, and then harvest and sell them after they reach the market size. After harvesting, the water in the pond should be restored to its original state and disinfected once.
