CATDOLL: How to farm crabs?

1. How to breed crabs?

1. Pond Preparation

The breeding pond should be located in a place with abundant aquatic plants, clean and clear water, and plenty of sunshine. Anti-escape equipment should be installed around the pond to reduce the incidence of disease during the breeding process.

2. Seed selection and seedling planting

When releasing crab seeds, the crab seedlings should be temporarily raised for a period of time to allow the crab seedlings to have a transition period of adaptation. A temporary raising area should be set up in the pond. Pay attention to the stocking density. The density should be moderate to ensure the normal growth and development of river crabs. The stocking time is generally around the beginning of spring.

3. Feeding

After stocking crabs, when the water temperature in the pond reaches 11 degrees or above, they need to be fed manually. After August, it is necessary to increase the amount of animal meat fed, the main purpose is to promote the gonadal development of river crabs and increase the weight of river crabs.

4. Water quality management

When stocking crabs, it is necessary to ensure that the water has a certain amount of fertility and that the fertility cannot be reduced, so water should be added at least once a week during the breeding process. It is not necessary to change the entire pond water each time, but only about 30% of the water can be changed. Quicklime should also be sprinkled regularly, about once every 15 days.

Additional information

To breed crabs, you need to first clean and disinfect the pond, then release the crab seedlings and feed them in a timely manner.

The crab's body is divided into the cephalothorax and abdomen. The back of the cephalothorax is covered with a cephalothorax, the shape of which varies from species to species. The first and second pairs of antennae are located in the center of the forehead, and the outer side is a stalked compound eye. The mouthparts include a pair of mandibles, two pairs of maxillae, and three pairs of maxillopods.

There are 5 pairs of thoracic legs on both sides of the cephalothorax. The abdomen is degenerate, flat, and zigzag on the ventral surface of the cephalothorax. The abdomen of the male is narrow and long, mostly triangular, with only the first two pairs of appendages transformed into copulatory organs; the abdomen of the female is broad, with a pair of double-branched appendages on the 2nd to 5th segments, densely covered with bristles, used to hold eggs. Most crabs are marine, with the most species in tropical shallow waters.

2. If hairy crabs are not sold for one year, will they die naturally?

The hairy crabs must be sold within one year of breeding. They will die naturally after breeding. This is the life cycle of the hairy crabs.

The naturally grown hairy crabs need to go through two long migrations in their lifetime. However, this is not the case for our artificially cultivated hairy crabs, because they are transported to different locations required in their life stages.

Due to the various water conservancy projects built by humans, it is now difficult for the hairy crabs in the Yangtze River system to complete their migration and reproduction.

This has resulted in the extremely low reproduction rate of hairy crabs in natural waters, which has also led to the fact that most hairy crabs today are artificially bred.

So Xian Hu said that the number of hairy crabs was originally scarce, but because we have overcome the technical difficulties in artificially breeding hairy crabs, the artificial breeding industry of hairy crabs in my country has developed rapidly.

It is precisely because of the rapid development of the artificial breeding industry of hairy crabs that hairy crabs have entered thousands of households. Only then can we experience the delicious taste of hairy crabs.

The artificially cultivated hairy crabs in the Yangtze River system are mainly divided into three parts.

The first part starts from Sheyang, Jiangsu Province. Because the hairy crab larvae just hatched from the mother crab have not developed complete gills, they cannot survive out of water for a long time.

Therefore, we have to wait until the lungs of the hairy crab larvae are fully developed, that is, the megalopa stage in the life of the hairy crab. At this stage, because the gills are fully developed, they can live out of the water and are convenient for transportation. Therefore, they are also called crab seedlings.

The second step is to transport them to Chongming, Shanghai. Because the hairy crab seedlings can only shed their shells in fresh water, they need a fresh water environment, which is also a transit station in the life of the hairy crab.

The reason why hairy crab seedlings are not directly produced in fresh water is that mature hairy crabs will only mate and lay eggs in light salt water with appropriate salinity and oxygen content. This results in the hairy crab larvae being produced in light salt water.

After the hairy crabs are grown into adults in Chongming, they will be transported to Yangcheng Lake for breeding. During this period, the weight of the hairy crabs will increase rapidly.

By the ninth and tenth month of the lunar calendar, the female and male crabs have reached sexual maturity, and the crab roe and crab paste of both male and female crabs have become very rich, which is when the hairy crabs are ready for sale.

Therefore, if hairy crabs are not sold within one year, they will die naturally, because the lifespan of hairy crabs is one year. Even if they do not reproduce, lay eggs or mate, hairy crabs will die within a year.

Therefore, if you are not planning to cultivate crab seedlings, you must sell the hairy crabs between September and March of the following year in the lunar calendar, otherwise you will lose money.

3. Can red crabs be cultivated artificially?

The food of red crabs is mainly fallen leaves, fruits, flowers and young trees. They like fresh green leaves, and of course fallen leaves can make do when food is scarce. Red crabs are not absolute vegetarians. They also eat other dead crabs and dead birds. If there is a chance, they will also eat large African snails and garbage left by humans.

Red crabs live mostly in humid places. They dig holes in the soil, burrow into cracks in rocks, and even in human gardens. They live in their caves for a long time. Each cave has only one entrance, which leads directly to their "bedroom". Only one crab lives in a cave. Except for the breeding season, they live alone. They cannot tolerate people living with them.

Red crabs are active during the day and are mostly inactive at night when the temperature is low and the humidity is high. Maintaining body moisture seems to be an important task for them, and humidity even determines their activity. They are very sensitive to humidity. In the dry season, they retreat into their moist caves and block the entrance with leaves to keep moisture in.
