CATDOLL: Can crabs live in fresh water?

1. Where do crabs live?

There are many varieties of crabs, and the living environments of these different varieties of crabs may be somewhat different. Generally speaking, the vast majority of crabs live in the ocean. There are many varieties of sea crabs, some of which live in slightly shallower waters, such as the brown crab, which is distributed in 30-100 meters of water. However, some crabs of different species can live in deeper places, such as the giant claw crab, which lives in the depth of 50-300 meters in the ocean; and the king crab can live in a depth of 850 meters, where the water temperature is generally relatively low.

In addition to these crabs that live in the ocean, there are also some species of crabs that live in freshwater. There are also many varieties of freshwater crabs. For example, the Chengyang Lake hairy crabs that we can often buy are species that live in freshwater. In addition, there are crystal crabs, red star swimming crabs, three-spotted swimming crabs, etc. These crabs like to live in places with clean water and lush aquatic plants, and like to move in the mud at the bottom of the water. Sometimes they will also move on the shore and live in caves. It is possible to find crabs in some gravel or grass.

2. Can crabs survive in water?

Crabs can live in water because they breathe with gills, can move freely in water, and can carry out various complex life activities. As mentioned above, some crabs live in seawater, while others live in freshwater. Although crabs can sometimes move on land, they generally cannot stay on land for too long because the amount of water they can store in their bodies is limited.

There are both fresh and salt water, sea crabs and river crabs
