CATDOLL: King Crab Farming

1. King crab farming

King crab is a deep-sea crab that likes to live on the seabed at a depth of 400 to 600 meters. Such a giant, high-cost and high-demand creature must be raised alone if it is to be raised, which is relatively costly. Generally, only aquariums have the ability to raise it.

King crab, also known as stone crab or rock crab, is a crustacean of the family Crabidae. It is not a real crab and is mainly distributed in cold waters. It is named because of its huge size and is known as the "king of crabs". It is not the same crab as the emperor crab (Pseudolimus giganteus), so please do not confuse it. Due to their huge size and delicious meat, many species are widely caught as food, the most common of which is the Kamchatka Pseudolimus giganteus. King crab belongs to deep-sea crabs, living at a depth of 850 meters and a water temperature of 2-5℃. The lowest water temperature that king crabs can survive is 1.4 degrees Celsius. In September 2011, scientists discovered more than 1 million giant king crabs in a mudbed basin 850 meters below the continental shelf near the coast of Antarctica. Scientists say that the appearance of this large alien carnivore may be the first sign of an ecological catastrophe in the Antarctic waters.

Biological reproduction

The reproduction rate of king crabs is amazing. Each female crab can produce nearly 10,000 surviving crabs every year.

King crabs usually lay eggs in shallows about 350 meters away from April to June every year. These creatures mostly live in muddy sand in shallows and inhabit waters in low-latitude areas.

During the breeding season, female king crabs and male king crabs mate and hatch. Generally speaking, in a king crab's lifespan of about 30 years, the reproductive period is four years.

The hatching ratio of eggs is approximately 16,000/80,000.

2. How to cultivate king crabs artificially?

King crabs are deep-sea crabs that like to live on the seafloor at a depth of 400 to 600 meters. It is generally recommended to raise them alone. The water temperature should be kept below 10 degrees in summer and around 15 degrees in winter. The salinity should be 24 to 26 degrees. The water should be changed once a month.

King crab, also known as stone crab or rock crab, is a crustacean of the family Crabidae. It is not a true crab and is mainly distributed in cold waters. It is named because of its huge size and is known as the king of crabs. It is not the same crab as the emperor crab (Pseudo-salis giganteus), so please do not confuse it. Due to their huge size and delicious meat, many species are widely caught as food, the most common of which is the Kamchatka Pseudo-salis.

King crabs are large, with the largest weight reaching 10 kilograms. King crabs grow slowly and can live up to 30 years. From the outside, king crabs are about 25 centimeters wide and their legs are about 1 meter long, making them relatively large crustaceans. Their bodies are covered with hard spines.

3. How to cook king crab to preserve its most delicious part?

To preserve the most delicious part of the king crab, in my opinion, the best cooking method is steaming. When steaming the king crab, just add ginger slices during steaming, and the best taste of the king crab can be preserved after steaming. When steaming the king crab, the shell should be at the bottom and the belly button should be at the top, and the ginger slices should be placed on the belly button. It should be noted that the king crab should not be steamed for too long. When the king crab turns pink, it means that the king crab is cooked.

Many people like to deep-fry king crabs, and then stir-fry them, etc. I think it is unnecessary! Because in this way, even if it seems to have a variety of flavors, it has covered up the most delicious taste of king crabs. The deliciousness of king crabs lies in the sweet taste when they are eaten, and the most delicious thing about king crabs is that they are soft when they are eaten. This taste and flavor are also the key to whether the king crab is fresh. Now the king crabs in many places are actually frozen. For example, in some buffet restaurants, the taste of frozen king crabs is relatively poor, and many restaurants will make flavored king crabs.

King crabs are also known as stone crabs or rock crabs. They are not real crabs and are mainly found in cold waters. King crabs are deep-sea crabs that can survive at depths of up to 850 meters and in water temperatures of 2-5°C. The lowest water temperature in which king crabs can survive is 1.4°C. Chinese medicine believes that they have the effects of clearing away heat and detoxifying, replenishing bones and marrow, nourishing tendons and activating blood circulation, unblocking meridians, benefiting limbs, healing broken bones, nourishing liver yin, and replenishing gastric juice. They have a certain therapeutic effect on diseases such as blood stasis, injuries, jaundice, back and leg pain, and rheumatoid arthritis.

In fact, king crabs live in the cold deep sea. If you want to eat real king crabs, you have to go to some relatively cold countries. It is best to follow the local fishermen to catch king crabs in the deep sea. In this way, the king crabs will taste very delicious.

If you want to preserve the most delicious part of king crab, one way is to choose live king crab, and the other is to steam it when cooking.

Steam it directly. My father is a chef. He said that if you want to preserve the original taste of the ingredients, you should steam them. Steaming king crabs directly and then dipping them in sauce is the most delicious.

It is best to use the steaming method, because in this way the meat will not be affected by the soup, but will be the most delicious.

King crabs should be steamed in a pot. This original method can retain the freshness of the king crabs and is also very nutritious.
