Rainbow trout has a lower fat content, so its red and white lines are pale white, and the lines are much thinner, and the edges of the lines are harder. The color of the meat of rainbow trout and salmon is also significantly different. After being sliced, salmon will be oily and shiny, and will reflect light under the light, while the cut fish meat of rainbow trout is dull.

The difference in taste between rainbow trout and salmon

The taste of rainbow trout and salmon is also obviously different. The taste of salmon is much better than that of rainbow trout. This kind of fish has a firm and full texture, rich fish oil, and melts in the mouth. It is particularly elastic and feels very chewy when chewed. The taste of rainbow trout is relatively hard and does not have these wonderful feelings.

1. Difference between species. Salmon: It is a kind of marine fish of the Salmonidae family, and usually lives in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Japan also produces a small amount of it. Rainbow trout: It is a kind of freshwater fish of the Pacific salmon genus of the Pacific salmon genus of the Salmonidae family, and usually lives in North America, the west coast of the Pacific Ocean, Heilongjiang and other places. 2. Difference in nutritional ingredients. Salmon is a kind of marine fish, while rainbow trout is a kind of freshwater fish. The main components of both are water, protein, fat, minerals and vitamins, but the content of unsaturated fatty acids in marine fish is higher than that of freshwater fish. Therefore, the nutritional value of salmon is higher than that of rainbow trout. 3. Difference in eating methods. Salmon: It is usually eaten raw, made into sushi, fried, stewed in soup, stewed in porridge, etc. It can also be cooked like Chinese food. Rainbow trout: It is usually eaten by stewing, cooking porridge, frying and boiling, etc.

Although rainbow trout and salmon are somewhat similar, there are still big differences between them. For example, they grow in different environments. Rainbow trout is a freshwater fish, while salmon is a saltwater fish. The prices are also different. The price of rainbow trout is lower than that of salmon. The texture of the fish meat is also different. The texture of salmon is wider than that of rainbow trout.

Can rainbow trout be eaten raw?

Harmful. Few people in China eat raw rainbow trout, mainly because they are afraid of bacterial infection. Eating raw rainbow trout may infect liver flukes, lung flukes and other parasites, which are harmful to health.

There has been controversy over whether rainbow trout can be eaten raw. The China Aquatic Products Circulation and Processing Association, together with the member units of the salmon branch, issued a "group standard" for "raw salmon", stating that rainbow trout belongs to salmon. The "group standard" seemed to be able to settle the dispute, but unexpectedly, it led to even greater controversy.

Chen Shunsheng, a professor at Shanghai Ocean University, said that rainbow trout is a freshwater fish, similar in shape to Pacific salmon. The Chinese conventional name for salmon is mainly Atlantic salmon. After the "group standard" expanded the definition of salmon, "the name salmon was replaced."

Both marine and freshwater fish may have parasites, and you should also prevent parasites when eating salmon raw, but marine fish have fewer types of parasites, and the osmotic pressure of seawater is high, so they often do not grow into adults in the human body due to the unsuitable environment. Raw rainbow trout may be infected with parasites such as liver flukes and lung flukes, which are harmful to health.

The group standard "Raw Salmon" has strict regulations on parasites with reference to national standards, and explicitly requires that the origin and species of the raw fish be marked on the product label. In other words, although rainbow trout is also salmon, consumers can distinguish whether it is marine Atlantic salmon or freshwater farmed rainbow trout from the label.
