CATDOLL: What's this on the head of a parrot fish?

1. What is this growing on the head of the parrot fish?

From your pictures, your parrot fish has white spot disease. White spot disease is a common disease of ornamental fish. The occurrence environment of white spot disease has obvious seasonality, generally occurring from December to June of the following year, at 14-25℃. Early detection is the most important. For milder symptoms, you can pick up the fish and put it in warm water at 30-32℃, because white spot worms cannot grow in this water temperature.

In addition, you can also use 10% salt water mixed with 1000 kg of water for medicinal bathing for 3 consecutive days to cure the disease.

2. The parrot fish is not dead but its eyes are gone. What is the reason?

Judging from the picture, it should have been bitten off. Parrot fish are a species that likes to fight. Fish of the same species may also fight and die due to disputes over food and territory. Parrot fish that like to fight should be isolated with isolation boards to prevent fights. Dead fish should be fished out in time to prevent bacterial infection that may cause water quality to deteriorate and cause disease in the entire school of fish.

3. What kind of fish can be bred with parrot fish and arowana?

Male parrot fish are not reproductive. Some female parrots can also crossbreed with Luohan fish, resulting in two types of fish: one with the same body shape as Luohan fish, called parrot Luohan fish, and the other with the same body shape as parrot fish but the same color as Luohan fish, called unicorn parrot fish. The hybrid fish cannot reproduce.

The fish bred had white eyes, a sharp mouth and a body color like that of arowana.

Such ethical issues need to be answered by relevant experts. If the fish are complicated, I would like to post a picture for everyone to see!

Two fish do not mate

How about my answer?

Parrot fish and arowana cannot breed any fish, because parrot fish themselves are infertile.

4. Why is it called Yuanbao Parrot Fish?

Friends who raise parrot fish should know that there are many types of parrot fish, and the Yuanbao parrot fish is one of them. The Yuanbao parrot fish is clearly distinguished from the macaw fish, the unicorn parrot fish, etc. The dorsal fin and pelvic fin of this fish are very long, which can cover the tail fin, and its body is relatively round and looks a bit like a Yuanbao.

The Yuanbao Parrot Fish can be said to be the third generation of improved fish species. The Blood Parrot Fish is the ancestor of cichlid improvement. The Macaw Fish is also a representative species of early cichlid improvement, so it is often used as a comparison with today's improved cichlids. The Blood Parrot Fish is smaller in size, has a larger head, more convex eyes, and an inverted A-shaped mouth, similar to a peach heart pattern.

The macaw is longer, orange-red in color, with shorter dorsal and anal fins, and is more similar to the red devil. After reaching 18 cm in length, its mouth is triangular and its chin is more convex. Only 20% of them weigh more than half a kilogram. The difference between the two and the Yuanbao parrot fish can be seen at a glance. By observing the pictures of parrot fish, you will find that Yuanbao parrot fish are also different, there are red Yuanbao parrot fish and yellow Yuanbao parrot fish.

The names of yellow and red Yuanbao parrot fish come from the majority of fish lovers themselves. Yuanbao parrot fish are not so strictly divided. People just call them that because some parrot fish are reddish and some are yellowish. The reason why the red Yuanbao parrot fish is bright red in color is that it is fed with natural astaxanthin, which makes its body color appear natural bright red. If you want to keep the yellow color, you don't need to feed it color-enhancing feed. If you want to keep the yellow color, you can feed it shrimp and egg yolk.

There are many varieties of parrot fish, such as: Macaw, blood parrot, heart parrot, red and white parrot, unicorn, color parrot, Yuanbao parrot

The difference between Yuanbao parrot and other parrots is simply that it has a round body and a crescent beak, as shown in the picture:

It is colorful, with a purple back, rose-red sides, light yellow chest and abdominal fins, grayish-yellow dorsal fin, and a white edge on the tail, just like a parrot, so people call it parrot fish. Because it looks like an ingot, it is called ingot parrot fish.

1. Feeding method:

1. Juvenile stage: Feed management is very important during the juvenile stage. Feed once every four hours as much as possible, and feed the maximum amount of food each time. This serves to establish the foundation for the growth of juveniles. Juveniles are mainly fed with feed. Frozen or dried bloodworms, brine shrimp or mealworms can also be fed at this stage.

2. Sub-adult fish stage: Also mainly fed with feed. During this period, the fish's food intake increases. In addition to the previous bait, mealworms, beef or small black-shelled shrimps can also be fed.

2. Feeding precautions:

1. When feeding, if the fish do not finish eating within five minutes, remember to remove the remaining bait immediately, otherwise it will pollute the water quality.

2. Observe the health of the fish every day to see whether the fish are active and healthy.

3. Understand water quality: The hardness of tap water in China varies in each county and city, and it may be weakly acidic or weakly alkaline depending on the region. Although tap water is soft water, it has been purified and sterilized, so that it contains chlorine and other sterilizing substances. Although it will not directly endanger the health of humans and animals, it will cause harm or even death to fish that directly use water to breathe. Generally, freshwater fish prefer soft water environment. Although slightly hard water quality will not seriously affect fish, if the water quality is changed suddenly without knowing whether it is soft water or hard water, the fish will not be able to adapt and fade in a short time.

4. Water quality management: Red God of Fortune and Red Yuanbao should use old water with higher hardness, water temperature is about 28℃, the most appropriate pH value is in the range of 7 or 6.5~7.5, and carbonate hardness is about 3~6°KH. Since the pH value of breeding water is preferably neutral, no matter what kind of sand and gravel is used as the substrate, the most important thing is not to affect the pH value of the water quality; because some sand and gravel will release substances that make the water acidic or alkaline, which will affect the growth and bright red color of "Red God of Fortune" and "Red Yuanbao". It is recommended to use medical stone or Yilan stone, and NH3 (ammonia), NH4+ (ammonium) and NO2- (nitrous acid), pH value (acidity and alkalinity) should be tested once a day and kept in the most appropriate range. PS: If the fish changes the environment, the water quality is not suitable, and the color fades, you can add yellow medicine (fish liling) or black water (caoni pills), and the color will soon return.

5. Substrate: Yilan stone, medical stone or black gallstone are the most ideal. Its function is to form a nitrifying bacteria bed, stabilize the water quality, and decompose organic matter and precipitate it under the substrate, which also has a beautifying effect. If a bare tank is used, it is easy to make nitrifying bacteria only reproduce in the filter tank because there is no substrate, which reduces the reproduction space of nitrifying bacteria and cannot stabilize the minerals and trace elements in the water. At the same time, pathogens or other pollutants in the water are directly dispersed in the water.

6. Growth and change process: When the "Red God of Wealth" and "Red Yuanbao" are juveniles, they are no different from ordinary South American cichlids, but they are quite strong and grow rapidly in the juvenile stage. They can grow to about 13 cm in about two to three months, and their body color will change from black to red. In the first year, their body length can reach more than 20 cm. After two years, they can grow to 25 to 28 cm and weigh more than one kilogram. However, the maximum body length has not yet been confirmed. The largest I have seen in the country is only 35 cm.

It is very beautiful and is a kind of parrot fish.
