CATDOLL: Is it easy to raise bream and grass carp?

Bream and grass carp are suitable for mixed breeding. Bream is a freshwater herbivorous fish. It can grow to a maximum of 15-20 catties, which is not as big as grass carp, and its relative feeding power is less than that of grass carp. After becoming an adult, it mainly feeds on bitter grass, duckweed, tender leaf vegetables, artificial feed, aquatic zooplankton, and pondweed. The breeding method of bream is the same as that of the four major carps. Bream is released around the Qingming Festival and fed until the winter solstice. Its food intake is the largest in June-September. This fish is easy to breed and can grow up to 1.5-2 catties per year. There are many fish ponds in rural areas that breed bream.

1. Pond specification requirements:

If you want to breed good bream, you must start by choosing a fish pond and a place with sufficient water source. Bream breeding is generally recommended in a live pond that can take in and drain water, and requires a clean and sufficient water source. The size of the fish pond should preferably be more than two acres, with a water depth of 1.5 meters to 3 meters. The bottom of the pond should be exposed to the sun in winter to dry and crack, and there should not be too much silt in the pond. The most important thing is that no sewage should be discharged into the pond. Ten days before releasing water into the pond, the pond should be disinfected by spraying quicklime, with 50 kilograms of quicklime per acre, and then drained into the pond after ten days of exposure.

2. Bream stocking time and density:

Bream is usually released around the Qingming Festival. In colder areas, it is best to release the fry after the Qingming Festival. The fry should be healthy and strong without wounds or weakness, and preferably larger than two fingers. Bream is usually raised in mixed culture, such as with silver carp, bighead carp, grass carp, black carp, crucian carp, tilapia, etc. Mixed culture helps the bream to become active. About 200 bream are released per mu. If the main feed is early bream, 500-800 bream are released per mu.

3. Water quality requirements:

The water quality requirements for bream farming are generally the same as those for the four major carps. The water transparency should be maintained at 25-30 cm above the surface, and the water pH value should be between 7.6 and 8.5. The peak growth season for bream is between June and September. Pay attention to changing the water, observe weather changes, and properly install aerator equipment. If it is rainy, windless, or hot and humid, turn on the aerator every morning. When you get up in the morning, check the fish's mood. If you find that the fish are floating and lack of oxygen, you should fill the water and turn on the aerator in time.

4. Feeding method:

Bream and grass carp have the same diet, which is mainly grass or artificial feed. They are fed twice a day. For grass feeding, duckweed is generally recommended. Duckweed is small and tender, and bream likes to eat it very much. You can also feed artificial granular feed such as peanut bran, wheat bran and corn flour. Feeding should be done at regular times and fixed locations to ensure that the fish are full.

5. Daily water disinfection and prevention:

In rural individual farming, water disinfection is not necessary, because their farming density is small and there is no disease. They just put the fish in and feed them until they grow up, and basically no drugs are needed for disinfection. If it is a traditional farming, it is best to disinfect the fish pond water when you are free, about once a month, use 20 kilograms of quicklime per mu, and make lime water to sprinkle on the whole fish pond. Quicklime has the effect of sterilization, treatment and prevention, and can purify water quality, prevent fish from getting sick, reduce the saltiness and acidity of water quality, and help fish growth to a certain extent.

After a winter vacation, the students are all full of energy and vitality. They carry their schoolbags and come to school early to devote themselves to the intense study life of the new semester. On behalf of all the faculty and staff of the school, I welcome you back to campus.

Bream is mainly farmed in Wuxi and Yixing, Jiangsu, and crucian carp is farmed in Liyang near Yixing.

As long as you take good care of it, no fish is particularly difficult to raise.
