What kind of fish is this? I bought it as pomfret

The scientific name of this fish is golden pomfret. It can grow very large and costs about 10 yuan per pound!

The most obvious difference between golden pomfret and silver pomfret is their size: golden pomfret eats a lot and grows fast, and those commonly seen on the market are around 500 grams; whereas silver pomfret grows meat very slowly, and it takes two years to grow to half a pound in size. It is rare to see silver pomfret weighing 500 grams on the market now.

From the appearance, there are big differences between golden pomfret and silver pomfret if you look closely, but there are three main points: first, the length-to-width ratio of golden pomfret is between 1.5 and 2 times, in comparison, the length-to-width ratio of silver pomfret is less than 1.5 times, more like a diamond; second, the dorsal fin of golden pomfret has hard spines, while that of silver pomfret is smooth; finally, the cloaca of golden pomfret is located behind the middle of the body, while that of silver pomfret is located in front of the middle of the body.

You lose.

Pomfret is expensive.

This is similar to pomfret, but it is not pomfret. The price is much lower than pomfret.

The fish in the picture has a bulge on its head, so it is definitely not a golden pomfret. (Golden pomfret looks very similar to silver pomfret. The fish in the picture is neither silver pomfret nor golden pomfret.)

What kind of fish is this flat fish-like marine fish that is placed on ice in the supermarket?

Pomfret, also known as mirror fish, D fish (Linhai Yiwuzhi), Changhou turtle, Chang rat (Bencao Shiyi), dog sleepy fish (Lingbiao Luyi), pomfret (Yilin Zongyao), mirror fish, flat fish (Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea fish survey report), Baichang (Chinese Animal Atlas·Fish), fork slice fish (Jiangsu, Zhejiang), etc. The body is short and tall, extremely flattened, and slightly diamond-shaped. The head is small, the snout is round, the mouth is small, and the teeth are thin. The pelvic fins of adult fish disappear. The caudal fin is deeply forked, and the lower lobe is longer. The body is silvery white, and the upper part is slightly blue-gray. It feeds on crustaceans. Pomfret is a large fish that is both edible and ornamental in tropical and subtropical areas.

Pomfret belongs to the order Perciformes, family Pomfret. It has a short and tall body, very flattened laterally, and slightly diamond-shaped. It has a small head, a round snout, a small mouth, and fine teeth. The pelvic fins of adult fish disappear, and the caudal fin is deeply forked. Body shape: short and tall, extremely laterally flattened, slightly diamond-shaped, and about 20 cm long.

Head: The head is small, flattened and high. The snout is short, blunt, and slightly protrudes in front of the lower jaw. The eyes are small and sideways. The distance between the eyes is a large arc-shaped bulge, the nose is small, 2 on each side, the front nostrils are round, the back nostrils are slit-shaped, and the mouth is small and slightly slanted.

Fins: Dorsal fins IX to XII, I-42 to 48, starting point slightly in front of the anal fin. Anal fins VI to VII, I-41 to 46. Dorsal and anal fins are of the same shape, with truncate spines and sickle-shaped fins. Pectoral fins are large, 24 to 27. No pelvic fins. Caudal fins 17, deeply forked. Body silvery white, slightly bluish gray on the upper part, with tiny black dots on most scales.

I just ate this kind of fish, it's probably not pomfret, because the pomfret I ate a few days ago was bigger than this one, with almost no bones. The one I ate this time was much smaller, and it looked very similar to pomfret, but the bones on the back of the fish were different. This small one had many small bones inside, it didn't feel like pomfret.

Why don't you ask in the supermarket?

Is it pomfret? It would be better if there is a picture
