CATDOLL: Where does seaweed grow?

1. Where does seaweed grow?

Porphyra fronds mostly grow in intertidal zones, preferring sea areas with strong winds and waves, smooth tides, and rich nutrients. It is highly drought-resistant and suitable for light intensity, with the characteristics of high light saturation point and low light compensation point, and is a high-yield crop.

The adaptability to low temperature varies with the water content of the algae. When it is quickly dried to 20% water content, it can be put back into seawater after being stored at a low temperature of about -20℃ for several months to 1 year and still recover its vitality. The filaments have poor dryness resistance and require low light, so they are naturally distributed below the low tide line. When the temperature begins to drop and there is seawater flow, the conchospores are often released in large quantities at 9 to 11 am every day after they are formed.

Additional information:

1. Nutrition

Nori is rich in nutrition, its protein content exceeds that of kelp, and it contains more carotene and riboflavin. Nori contains protein, fat, carbohydrates, calcium, phosphorus, iron, carotene, riboflavin, niacin, alanine, glutamic acid, glycine, leucine, isoleucine, etc.

2. Application

(1) Prevent goiter. It can be used to treat goiter caused by iodine deficiency. Laver has the function of softening and dispersing nodules, and is also useful for other stagnation and accumulation.

(2) Promote growth and development. Rich in choline, calcium and iron, it can enhance memory, treat anemia in women and children, and promote the growth and health of bones and teeth. It contains a certain amount of mannitol and can be used as a supplementary food for the treatment of edema.

(3) Prevent tumors. The active ingredients in laver have an inhibition rate of 53.2% on Ehrlich carcinoma, which helps prevent and treat brain tumors, breast cancer, thyroid cancer, malignant lymphoma and other tumors.

(4) Improve immune function. The polysaccharides contained in laver have the ability to significantly enhance cellular immunity and humoral immunity, promote lymphocyte transformation, and improve the body's immunity.

2. Where does seaweed grow?

Porphyra thallus mostly grows in intertidal zones, preferring sea areas with strong winds and waves, smooth tides, and rich nutrients. It is highly drought-resistant; the suitable light intensity is 5000-6000 lux, with the characteristics of high light saturation point and low light compensation point, and is a high-yield crop. The adaptability to low temperatures varies with the water content of the algae. When it is quickly dried to 20% water content, it can be restored to vitality after being refrigerated at a low temperature of about -20℃ for several months to 1 year and put back into seawater. The adaptability to the specific gravity of seawater is wide, but 1.020-1.025 is appropriate. The filaments have poor drought resistance and require low light, so they are naturally distributed below the low tide line. When the temperature begins to drop and there is seawater flow, the conchospores are often released in large quantities from 9 to 11 am every day after formation, showing obvious daily periodicity.
