1. Choose a fish tank that suits you. The bigger the fish tank, the better. The bigger the fish tank, the more space there is for tropical fish to move around, and it is easier to keep them. But you also need to consider your actual situation and whether the place is suitable. The fish tank must have a filtration system, and the larger the filter tank, the better. 2. Choose tropical fish that are suitable for your own breeding. It is a mistake that novices often make to buy beautiful tropical fish and put them in the fish tank. The capacity of the fish tank is limited. If the stocking density is too high, the fish will not survive. Generally, a tropical fish about 50mm long is kept for every 10 liters of water. Different species of tropical fish cannot be mixed together casually. As the saying goes, big fish eat small fish. If fish of different sizes are kept together, the small ones will be bullied. The docile ones will also be bullied by the fierce ones. It is recommended that novices only keep tropical fish of the same species. Choose some easy-to-raise and cheap ones to practice first. For example: peacock, red arrow, tiger skin, angelfish, zebra, etc. The picture below shows angelfish, which is beautiful, cheap and easy to raise. 3. Before putting fish in the tank, prepare the water. If you put fish in the tank right after you buy it, your fish will not survive for a few days. Because the tap water at home is disinfected and contains chlorine, it is not suitable for tropical fish, especially delicate species. After putting water in the tank, don't rush to buy fish. Turn on the water pump for three to five days. Let the water in the tank fully come alive before considering putting fish in. 4. Establish an ecosystem before putting fish into the tank. Have you ever noticed that other people's fish tanks have some ceramic rings or black sponges under the white sponge in the filter tank. The white sponge is used to filter larger impurities in the water, while these ceramic rings or black sponges (called biochemical sponges) are used to cultivate nitrifying bacteria. These ceramic rings or biochemical sponges are full of micropores, which are suitable for the reproduction of nitrifying bacteria and can simulate the ecological circulation system of nature. During the days of water cultivation, nitrifying bacteria will slowly form and multiply in the ceramic rings or biochemical sponges, and these nitrifying bacteria can play a role in purifying water quality. The larger the filter tank, the more ceramic rings or biochemical sponges can be placed, so the larger the filter tank, the better. 5. Let the fish adapt to the water temperature before putting them into the tank. After buying tropical fish, float the bag containing the fish in the tank and wait for your beloved fish to slowly adapt to the water temperature of the tank. If you put the fish directly into the tank, tropical fish will easily get sick due to the large temperature difference. Just like people, they will easily catch a cold if the temperature fluctuates. Delicate tropical fish also need to be slowly diluted with water (add a small amount of water to the tank to allow the water quality to change slowly) to allow the tropical fish to slowly adapt to the water quality of the tank before putting them into the tank. 6. Control the water temperature. Because the most suitable water temperature for tropical fish is 24℃-28℃, we usually control the water temperature at 25℃. Put a suitable heating rod in the fish tank and set the temperature to 25℃ or 26℃. Put a thermometer in the fish tank and observe the water temperature at any time. Generally, a 100W heating rod is used for a 30-liter fish tank. If the heating rod is always heating or takes a long time to reach the temperature, it means that the power of the heating rod is too low, and you need to consider changing it to a higher power one. If the temperature is high in summer, you must try your best to lower the water temperature. If the economy allows, you can consider adding a cold water device. 7. Turn on the lights regularly to keep your fish on a regular schedule. Turn on the lights in the fish tank regularly for about 5 to 8 hours every day. Although fish do not have eyelids and cannot close their eyes, they still need to sleep. You can notice that tropical fish are more quiet in the dark, and they are more active when the lights are on. 8. Change the water frequently. Changing the water is very particular. Newbies usually just change the water in the fish tank, which is a big mistake. Tropical fish have adapted to the environment in the fish tank, and we cannot change its living environment randomly. It's just like people will not adapt to the local climate when they go to another place. (1) You need to place the tap water in a bucket for a few days to wait for the disinfectant chlorine in the water to disappear. (2) Generally, the water should be changed once a week, and the amount of water changed each time should not exceed one-third. (3) First, drain about a quarter of the water in the fish tank and slowly add new water to ensure that the water temperature does not change too much and the water quality can change slowly. (4) The white sponge in the filter tank needs to be cleaned frequently. If it cannot be cleaned thoroughly, replace it with a new one. (5) Ceramic rings or biochemical sponges do not need to be cleaned and cannot be cleaned because they contain a large number of nitrifying bacteria that help purify the water. Even if they are too dirty or ineffective over time, you can only replace one-third of them each time. |
