CATDOLL: Prevention and treatment of endometritis in pigs

Causes and symptoms of endometritis in pigs

Porcine endometritis is a common disease that causes reproductive system diseases in sows. Its main cause is bacterial infection, such as Gram-negative bacteria, swine mycoplasma, etc., and is also related to mechanical damage and malnutrition.

Endometritis in pigs often manifests itself in symptoms such as inaccurate estrus, failure to breed after estrus, semen reflux, and decreased litter rate. Severe endometritis may also cause complications such as poor cervical closure, abortion, and delayed labor.

Preventive measures for pig endometritis

1. Hygiene of the breeding environment: Keep the environment in the pig pen clean, clean up feces and wet mats regularly to reduce the chance of bacterial growth.

2. Water source safety: Provide clean drinking water and ensure that drinking water facilities are free of scale and bacterial contamination.

3. Reasonable feeding: ensure the nutritional balance of pigs, enhance immunity, and prevent endometritis caused by malnutrition.

4. Develop a reasonable breeding plan: pay attention to seasonal breeding, avoid the peak period of piglet production being concentrated in a certain period of time, and reduce the spread of diseases in the pig pen.

Treatment of pig endometritis

1. Drug treatment: Choose appropriate antibiotics for treatment according to the type of pathogen, such as ampicillin, streptomycin, etc. At the same time, anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs can be used to relieve pain and inflammation.

2. Cleansing treatment: Regular uterine flushing to remove pathogens and inflammatory substances caused by endometritis.

3. Feeding and management: Strengthen the management of pig herds, improve environmental hygiene and feeding conditions, and reduce the possibility of disease transmission and occurrence.

Swine endometritis is a common reproductive system disease in pigs that requires timely prevention and treatment. The risk of endometritis in pigs can be reduced by maintaining a clean breeding environment, providing clean drinking water, feeding properly, and formulating a breeding plan. For pigs that have already developed endometritis, timely medication and cleaning treatment, combined with improvements in feeding management, can help the pigs recover.
