1. How to breed centipedes How to breed centipedes1. Choose a breeding box For the breeding box, we need to choose according to the size of the centipede. It is recommended to have a ventilated and transparent breeding box. If you cannot afford a professional breeding box, you can also use a storage box with ventilation holes instead. But you must pay attention to ventilation. 2. Select the cushion soil There are three main types of bedding soil suitable for centipedes on the market now - the most common coconut soil, peat soil (413 or 422), and reptile wood blocks. These three types of bedding soil can be changed and selected, and the functions are not much different, mainly in terms of appreciation. These three types of bedding soil can be mixed and used. After choosing the bedding soil, remember to clean and replace it regularly to avoid the proliferation of mites. 3. Choose the right basin Water is the source of life. In the centipede breeding environment, you must prepare a water basin that is not easy to be overturned to ensure the water supply for the centipede. This is very important and cannot be neglected. 4. Provide shelter Providing a hiding place will help centipedes find a sense of security and help them start eating in a new environment. It will also greatly help the aesthetics and artistry of the breeding box. The simplest hiding place is tree bark, which you can consider. 5. Control humidity Humidity is particularly important for centipedes. Centipedes prefer a damp and cool environment, so the environment we keep them in should be the same. The humidity of the bedding soil should be kept above 40%, and there should always be water in the basin. 6. Control the temperature Centipedes are arthropods, so they have very high temperature requirements. Generally speaking, 23-28 degrees Celsius is the best temperature. So in winter we must prepare a heating pad. The heating method is the common heating method for reptiles, so there is no need to elaborate. 7. Feeding method The main things to feed centipedes are mealworms and barley worms. Larvae are generally fed every two to three days, while adults can be fed once a week. Give the corresponding number of mealworms or barley worms according to the size of the centipede. This is also the most worry-free point in centipede breeding. 8. Wound management Centipede venom is not fatal, but it will cause severe pain and obvious redness and swelling. You should stay calm and rinse the wound under running water for 5-20 minutes. During the cleaning process, squeeze the wound to expel the venom as much as possible. After cleaning, disinfect it with alcohol or iodine. Do not apply a band-aid or the like, and keep the wound exposed. It will usually be fine after one or two weeks of treatment. 2. Growth and reproduction of the Giant CentipedeCentipedes are dioecious, oviparous, and have the habit of incubating eggs and raising young. After reaching sexual maturity in 3 years, centipedes usually mate at night from May to September every year. Females can continuously lay fertilized eggs for 3 to 5 years after mating once. The egg-laying season is from late June to early August, with the peak egg-laying period in mid-to-early July. They lay eggs once a year. Each time, they lay 20 to 60 eggs. After laying the eggs, they hold the eggs between their legs. The incubation time for the eggs is as long as 35 to 45 days. As the larvae grow, they shed their skin several times in their lifetime. 3. How to accurately and easily tell that a centipede is about to lay eggsThe abdomen is elastic, strong and in good spirits. The female centipede with a bloated body, abdomen close to the ground, slow movements, and an obviously swollen abdomen and difficulty in movement should be about to lay eggs. 4. In which month do centipedes lay eggs?Artificially cultivated centipedes can reproduce once a year. If they are raised, it will take one year at constant temperature and two to three years at room temperature. |
