How to grow ant cauliflower?

Ant cauliflower likes warm, sunny environment with plenty of light, and grows poorly in dark and humid places.

It is extremely resistant to poor soil and can adapt to most soils. It is particularly fond of sandy soil with good drainage.

Can Ant Cauliflower survive the winter in the north?

Of course cauliflower can survive the winter in the north.

Cauliflower generally refers to broccoli.

Biennial herb, 60 to 90 cm tall, covered with powdery frost. Stem erect, sturdy, branched. Basal and lower leaves oblong to elliptic, 2 to 3.5 cm long, gray-green, rounded at the top, spreading, not curled, entire or finely dentate, sometimes with leaves decurrent, with several small lobes, and winged; petiole 2 to 3 cm long; leaves in the middle and upper parts of the stem are smaller and sessile, oblong to lanceolate, and clasping the stem. There is a milky white fleshy head at the top of the stem composed of peduncle, pedicel and undeveloped flower buds; racemes are terminal and axillary; flowers are light yellow and later turn white. Siliques are cylindrical, 3 to 4 cm long, with 1 midrib, beak thick at the bottom and thin at the top, 10 to 12 mm long. Seeds are broadly elliptic, nearly 2 mm long, and brown. Flowering period is April, and fruiting period is May.

Cauliflower has a well-developed root system and strong regeneration ability, making it suitable for seedling raising and transplanting. It is susceptible to frost damage below 0℃, and it is difficult to form flower heads above 25℃. The growth of leaf clusters and bolting and flowering require warmth, with a suitable temperature of 20 to 25℃. Flower head formation must go through a low-temperature vernalization stage. Cauliflower is not strict about light conditions, but is relatively strict about water requirements. It is neither waterlogged nor drought-resistant. It has strong adaptability to soil, but sandy loam with high organic matter and deep soil layer is the best. The suitable soil pH is 5.5 to 6.6. It has strong salt tolerance and can still grow normally on soil with a salt content of 0.3% to 0.5%.

Cauliflower is a self-pollinating crop, and the phenomenon of self-depression is extremely serious. The selection of self-incompatible lines is more difficult than other crops. Varieties rely on population heterozygosity to remain stable, and the workload of heterozygous population selection is much greater than that of single plant and single line selection, and its theory is also much more complicated, which greatly increases the difficulty of breeding. At the same time, cauliflower is a low-temperature and long-day plant, which reacts significantly to low temperatures and has a narrow range of adaptability to climate. When cauliflower transforms from leaf clusters to flower balls, and from flower balls to flower buds and bolts and flowers, temperature stimulation is required. Abnormal changes in climate (such as high temperatures in summer and heavy rainfall during flowering) may result in no cauliflower seeds, resulting in breeding failure. In cauliflower breeding, there are technical problems to be solved in the selection of hybrid offspring, population size, and hybrid variety selection.
