CATDOLL: How many mulberry leaves are needed to raise silkworms?

1. How many kilograms of mulberry leaves are needed to raise a curtain of silkworms?

It takes about 600 kg of mulberry leaves to raise one curtain of silkworms, and can produce about 50 kg of cocoons.

Silkworms are divided into two categories: one is the domestic silkworm, or mulberry silkworm, which mainly feeds on mulberry leaves, and the other is the mountain silkworm, or tussah silkworm, which feeds on oak leaves.

The silkworm goes through four stages in its life: egg, larva, pupa and moth. It is the larva of the silk moth that is the main raw material for silk products.

It plays an important role in human economic life and cultural history. It is native to southern China. Ancient texts record that Emperor Xuanyuan began to raise silkworms. The most famous silkworm in Jiangnan is the well-known wife of Emperor Huangdi, Leizu. The staple food of silkworms is mulberry leaves, which can also be supplemented with a small amount of castor leaves. The cocoon is made of a continuous silk thread about 300 to 900 meters (1000 to 3000 feet) in length. The adult and pupa of the silkworm can be eaten and have therapeutic effects. The silkworm moth lays eggs and mates to reproduce offspring, and dies after laying eggs.

Because of its long history and economic importance, the breeding of silkworms has become an important research object of modern science.

2. How many mulberry leaves does a silkworm eat in its lifetime?

Start with 2-3 leaves, use tender mulberry leaves, preferably those closer to the top, and tear the leaves into smaller pieces for the silkworms to eat. Clean the mulberry leaves on time.

Slowly, when the silkworms grow up, you can choose the middle mulberry leaves, and feed them 3-4 pieces of mulberry leaves, tear them a little smaller, and feed them to the silkworms. Clean the mulberry leaves on time.

When the silkworms grow big, you can first feed the silkworms with the old mulberry leaves at the bottom, 5 to 7 leaves, without tearing them apart. Clean the mulberry leaves on time.

3. How many mulberry leaves does a silkworm eat in its lifetime?

A silkworm eats about 20-25g of mulberry leaves in its lifetime. Silkworms are oligophagous insects. In addition to mulberry leaves, they can also eat mulberry leaves, paper mulberry leaves, elm leaves, duck onions, thin dandelions and lettuce leaves. Mulberry leaves are the most suitable natural food for silkworms. Silkworms are holometabolous insects. They go through four completely different developmental stages in their life: egg, larva, pupa and adult. Under suitable temperature conditions, it takes 22-26 days from hatching to spinning and cocooning. A silkworm eats about 20-25g of mulberry leaves in its lifetime. Generally, after four dormancy and molting, its weight increases by about 10,000 times when it grows to the extreme. The amount of mulberry leaves eaten in the last stage accounts for more than 85% of its total mulberry leaves. The cocoons made by mulberry silkworms can be reeled into silk, which is an excellent textile fiber and the raw material of silk. The pupae of mulberry silkworms are edible, and silkworm moths and silkworm feces are comprehensively utilized as raw materials for various chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

4. How many mulberry leaves do silkworms eat in a day?

Silkworm feeding technology

Silkworms are fed 2 to 10 mulberry leaves a day according to different stages. The leaf standard for young silkworms is generally based on leaf color, and they are fed according to different age groups. They can be divided into: For silkworms in the first age stage, farmers should choose leaves that are suitable for maturity and tenderness, with yellowish green leaves, and the third leaf from the top bud, and the feeding amount is about 2 to 3 leaves per silkworm; for silkworms in the second age stage, farmers need to choose leaves with yellowish green (light green), and the fourth leaf under the top bud. For silkworms in the third age stage, farmers need to pick dark green mature leaves, the fifth to sixth leaves under the top bud or the three-eyed leaves with blind tops. The appropriate temperature and moderation of each age of silkworms are also very high. The temperature of the breeding environment needs to be maintained at 27-28℃ for silkworms in the 1st to 2nd age, and the difference between dryness and wetness is 15℃; while the suitable breeding environment temperature for silkworms in the third age is 26℃, and the difference between dryness and wetness is 2℃.

5. How many mulberry leaves are needed to raise 10,000 silkworms?

Half an acre of mulberry leaves is needed.

If you raise 10,000 silkworms, you need a 30-square-meter house. This is because when the silkworms are still small, they only need about two square meters of living space, but after three moltings, the living space of the silkworms will increase greatly, and only 500 to 600 silkworms can live in each square meter.

Raising 10,000 silkworms requires nearly half an acre of mulberry leaves. If the eggs are to form cocoons, a rack must be set up. It takes about 30 days for the silkworms to hatch and form nodules.

6. How many acres of mulberry leaves are needed to feed one silkworm?

To raise a bed of silkworms (80 jin of cocoons) with mulberry leaves, 600 kg of mulberry leaves are needed; one-year-old silkworms need 1.5 kg of mulberry leaves;

2-year-old silkworms need 5kg of mulberry leaves; 3-year-old silkworms need 22.5kg of mulberry leaves; 4-year-old silkworms need 91kg of mulberry leaves; 5-year-old silkworms need 480kg of mulberry leaves.

Generally, one acre of paddy field converted into mulberry garden can raise about 4 silkworms per year, while hillside land or dry land can raise about 2.5 silkworms.

7. How many mulberry leaves do a thousand silkworms need in a day?

It only takes about 20 to 30 grams to raise one silkworm, so 1,000 silkworms need about 20,000 to 30,000 grams of mulberry leaves.
