1. What are the costs and profits of one acre of grasshopper farming?

The current price of grasshoppers is 20 yuan/kg, so the output value of grasshoppers is 5,600 yuan. Excluding the breeding costs, the total profit is 2,600 yuan.

Seedling cost: Grasshoppers can reproduce for many years after purchase, so you only need to invest in seedlings once. Under normal circumstances, one acre can breed about 20,000 grasshoppers, and the price of each grasshopper egg is about 0.1 yuan, so one acre costs about 2,000 yuan.

Greenhouse construction costs: When breeding grasshoppers, in order to prevent the grasshoppers from escaping and harming the surrounding crops, the construction of a greenhouse is essential. However, a grasshopper breeding greenhouse can be roughly built, and the cost can be controlled at around 300 yuan.

Labor costs: Since the number of breeding is relatively large, more labor costs are required in the early stage of breeding, such as feeding, water and electricity management, etc., which cost about 500 yuan.

2. Do I need to lay a layer of grass when raising grasshoppers?

To raise grasshoppers, you need to lay a layer of grass

The greenhouses are very finely constructed. Each greenhouse has a breathable mesh and zippers at the entrance and exit, like a giant mosquito net. If it rains heavily or the weather is too hot, other tent cloths can be put on the outside to protect the grasshoppers. Through the mesh, the situation inside the greenhouse is clearly visible. Tens of thousands of grasshoppers are distributed everywhere in the greenhouse, either resting or foraging. Fresh grass is placed on the ground inside the greenhouse. These soft and juicy grasses are the main ingredients for feeding the grasshoppers.

3. Greenhouse breeding technology for katydids?

Grasshoppers have a long history in my country, and now they have a good prospect for both viewing and eating. Especially in recent years, with everyone's growing enthusiasm for this kind of insect, the number of people breeding grasshoppers has increased significantly. So how should this grasshopper be bred? Let's learn how to breed grasshoppers!

1. Construction of breeding pond

There are two types of katydid breeding: greenhouse ecological breeding and indoor breeding. The former requires too high technical requirements and is mainly sold for viewing, so it is not recommended. Indoor breeding is the most friendly way for novices. Raising katydids does not require a large space, and the number is calculated separately. Prepare some boxes with about three layers, one layer every 30 cm, and put 5-10 cm of fine sand on each layer for katydids to lay eggs. Seal the surroundings with gauze, which is breathable and prevents them from escaping. Reserve a hole for putting food and a place to prevent food on each layer to facilitate daily breeding. It is more appropriate to have about 800-100 crickets per square meter.

2. Environmental management

Because of their small size, katydids have high temperature requirements. A slightly lower temperature can easily lead to mass death. The most suitable daily temperature is around 25-28℃, and it needs to be maintained relatively stable for a long time. Large fluctuations in temperature will affect their normal growth. Secondly, the breeding room must be well ventilated to avoid stuffiness and humidity, which will greatly affect the growth of crickets. It is also necessary to keep it odor-free.

3. Spawning and introduction

During the mating period, try to let the male and female mate alone, otherwise it may cause a fight over the mate. Cricket eggs are usually buried in the soil at a depth of about 4 cm. They are laid around October every year and hatch around May of the following year. For safety reasons, farmers may need to take out the eggs and store them by themselves to ensure hatching. Each pair lays about 200-300 eggs.

4. Feeding and management

The most important thing when raising katydids is the freshness of their food. Crickets are very picky about food and will not eat anything that is not fresh, so breeders should pay attention to this aspect. Insects are omnivores. They eat everything from other small insects to vegetables. However, for their health, they are generally fed with mixed food. Fresh viscera of some animals can also be mashed and fed. Vegetables such as carrots and cabbage can be fed, but try not to have moisture on the vegetables. Feed them about twice a day, and make the food fresh and feed it immediately.
