CATDOLL: How to raise goldfish and what to pay attention to

1. How to breed goldfish:

1. Select fish fry

It is suitable to buy goldfish fry in autumn. At this time, the fry are growing healthily, the market is large and the quantity is large, so the probability of selecting high-quality fry is relatively high. High-quality goldfish fry have plump bodies, rounded fins and tails, symmetrical bodies with relatively complete scales, bright colors, and relatively high survival rates.

2. Choose a container

Common containers for breeding goldfish include porcelain basins, aquariums, storage boxes, glass tanks, small fish ponds, etc. Goldfish are suitable for breeding in shallow basins with large mouths. If you use an aquarium for breeding, the water depth for breeding large fish is generally between 25-30cm, and the water depth for breeding goldfish fry is between 20-25cm.

3. Hardware equipment

The hardware equipment includes siphons for water change, oxygen pumps, lighting tools, and filtration systems. The filtration system is critical for goldfish breeding. The filtration system can maintain the normal activities of goldfish. The filtration styles include top filtration, side filtration, built-in filtration, external waterfall filtration, external brand filter barrels, homemade drip top filtration, and auxiliary biological filtration. Commonly used filter materials include physical filter materials and biological filter materials. The principle of filtration is to generate a circulating water flow in the tank.

4. Water treatment

(1) The suitable water temperature for breeding goldfish is 20-28℃ and the pH value is 7.5-8.5. The tap water used for breeding goldfish must be exposed to the sun for about 24 hours, or left to air-dry for 2-3 days. You can also add baking soda to the water to remove chloride ions and leave it in the water for about 2 days before draining it.

(2) You can put two small fish in the tank first. If the water is turbid, you don’t need to treat it yet. Generally, it will become clear after waiting for about 7 days. At this time, nitrifying bacteria have begun to gradually establish. Then you can put goldfish fry in. It takes about 30 days for nitrifying bacteria to be fully established. After waiting for about 30 days, the water will become clear and transparent.

5. Matching feed

Goldfish are omnivores, so you should pay attention to the right food combination when feeding them. Do not feed them too single food. Animal foods include blood worms, fish worms, earthworms, etc. Plant foods include bran, bean cakes, noodles, rice, bread, diatoms, green algae, yellow algae, duckweed, water plants, small duckweed, etc. You can also feed them ready-made goldfish feed on the market.

6. Maintain water quality

During the breeding period, the water should be changed and the filter cotton should be cleaned in time. The water should be changed by 1/3 of the original water body. The water should be changed every 3-4 days in summer, every 7 days in spring and autumn, and every 15 days in winter. When changing the water, the remaining bait and excrement should be salvaged to reduce water pollution. During this period, the water temperature of the fish tank should be adjusted according to climate changes, and the pH value of the water should be checked regularly.

2. Precautions for breeding goldfish:

1. Goldfish do not know when they are hungry or full. Most of them die from overeating. Therefore, they must be fed at regular intervals and in fixed quantities. Uneaten food must be removed in time, otherwise it will cause water pollution, lack of oxygen, etc.

2. The fish tank can be placed in direct sunlight, which can have a sterilizing effect, but it may also cause the crazy growth of moss, so it must be handled in time. It is not advisable to change all the water, just change 1/3 each time. Tap water needs to be left for 1 day before being replaced.

3. The density of goldfish breeding should be reasonable to ensure that the goldfish have enough space to move around. During this period, some aquatic plants can be planted, and a small amount of sand and rockery can be laid at the bottom of the fish tank for the goldfish to play. When breeding different varieties of goldfish, you must understand their habits to avoid mixing species that may harm each other.

To raise goldfish, you need a suitable fish tank.

The fish tank is the home of the goldfish, where they live, so it is very important to choose a suitable fish tank. Goldfish will not grow very large, but generally there are more than one goldfish, so the fish tank should not be too small, otherwise the fish will appear crowded and die easily due to lack of oxygen. So choose the fish tank according to how many fish you plan to keep, and it is better to choose a slightly larger one.

It is best to use a filtration system when raising goldfish, but this filtration system does not necessarily have to come with the fish tank, you can also choose it separately. Goldfish eat a lot and poop a lot, so a filtration system is easy to clean and not too troublesome.

Goldfish have high ornamental value and bright colors. When you are in a bad mood or under a lot of pressure, you can watch them swim quietly to relax. Therefore, when buying a fish tank, do not buy one with a matte surface, scratches, or an uneven surface, as this will affect the viewing effect.

The fish tank for goldfish needs to be carefully arranged.

When you just buy a fish tank, you can add a small amount of yogurt and beer into the empty tank. Wait until the brown algae disappears and green algae grows, then put the goldfish in. This kind of green algae can be said to be "naturally" grown. Goldfish have been kept indoors, and the green algae outdoors are mixed with many other bacteria, which is not good for the health of goldfish.

You can also put some water plants, rockeries, and stones in the fish tank to create a relatively fresh environment. Water plants can purify the water and provide some oxygen, and rockeries and stones provide them with a place to play. If conditions permit, you can also buy a heating rod, which will make the goldfish live more comfortably. Constant water temperature is also important for the overall survival rate of goldfish.

The oxygenation system in the fish tank can be determined according to the number of goldfish you buy. Generally, you don't need to buy one when the density is small, unless you want to raise a lot of fish. In order to prevent the goldfish from dying of lack of oxygen, you need an oxygenation system. My suggestion is to configure an oxygenation system, which is more durable and safer.

1. Water skills

1) First clean the transparent fish tank (other containers are also OK, but make sure they are transparent)

2) Use soda water. If you don't have soda water, you can use cold boiled water instead. But remember not to use tap water, because tap water contains disinfectant chlorine, which the goldfish cannot handle.

3) Add as much water as possible to ensure good oxygen content and sufficient freedom for the fish. It is best to buy a small air pump specifically for fish farming.

2. Breeding skills

1) If there is no condition to maintain the water temperature in the fish tank, you should always give the goldfish enough sunlight during this cold winter.

2) Put some white rice stones and some water plants in the fish tank, but remember that the water plants must be appropriate.

3) You can feed some fish worms or white flour buns, but feed less and more frequently each time.

Also, please note that goldfish are particularly susceptible to white spot disease (a parasitic disease). If you find such things on the fish or scales fall off and there are wounds, remember to go to the flower and bird market to buy a kind of "yellow powder" (mainly for anti-inflammatory), and then drop some methylene blue medicine (mainly for parasite removal) when changing the water for the fish. With your careful care, the goldfish will definitely bring you equal happiness.

3. Feeding Methods

First, prepare the fish tank and dry the water in advance. If you want to lay sand and plant grass, you need to add water slowly after everything is ready. It takes about one or two days to dry the water. Then put the plastic bag containing the goldfish and the "old water" into the aquarium, so that it hangs in the middle and upper layers of the water body. After about half an hour, it is estimated that the water temperature in the plastic bag is close to that in the aquarium. At the same time, add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water to sterilize it. Wait for the fish to adapt to the aquarium for 1-2 days before feeding. If you need to increase the stocking amount, you should first place the new fish in another container and raise them alone for 7-10 days. After observing that the fish are indeed disease-free, put them together with the fish in the original aquarium to avoid bringing in pathogens.

1. Feeding method

Goldfish are usually fed with artificial and natural baits. Feeding must be done at a strict time and quantity to keep the water fresh. Generally speaking, feeding should be done 1-2 times a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. It is better to feed once in the evening in the morning rather than late. In addition, the time, frequency and quantity of feeding should also be determined according to the following principles:

(1) When the weather is clear, the sun is warm and the wind is gentle, there is sufficient dissolved oxygen in the water and the water temperature is suitable, you can add more bait.

(2) When the water is clear and the fish have a strong appetite, you can add more bait.

(3) If the fish is sick or the species is delicate and precious, you should use less coarse bait and more fine bait instead.

1. Choosing fish

If you want to raise goldfish well, you must first learn how to choose them. Choosing a good-looking and healthy goldfish is the basis.

From the performance of each part of the body, the goldfish should be plump, the ends of each fin are rounded, the body is symmetrical, the scales are complete, and the color is rich. The performance of the appearance should be selected according to the characteristics of each variety.

2. Hardware Equipment

Fish tanks, goldfish should be kept in shallow basins with large mouths. Generally, the water depth of aquariums for large fish is between 25 and 30 cm, and that for fry is between 20 and 25 cm. Siphons for changing water, oxygen pumps, lighting equipment and filtration are also required.

A filtration system is essential for fish farming. There are top filtration, built-in filtration, external waterfall filtration, external brand filter barrels, side filtration, auxiliary biological filtration, and homemade drip top filtration. Commonly used filter materials include physical filter materials (filter cotton, activated carbon) and biological filter materials (ceramic rings, biochemical cotton and biochemical balls). Only by establishing a good filtration system can the water quality in the tank be guaranteed. If the water quality is good, the goldfish will not get sick and will perform well.

3. Water conservation

The most important thing: Before raising goldfish, you must first maintain good water. The water for raising goldfish is very critical.

The suitable temperature for goldfish is 20 to 28 degrees, and the pH value range is 7.5 to 8.5.

The tap water used for raising goldfish must be exposed to the sun for about 24 hours or left to air for 2-3 days before use.

Next is the very important process of opening the aquarium. After putting in water for one or two days, you can put one or two small fish in the aquarium to test the water. If the water is turbid, you can ignore it for now. It will slowly become clear in about a week. At this time, the nitrifying bacteria have basically been established, and you can put your goldfish in. It takes about a month or a little longer for the nitrifying bacteria to be fully established. The temperature is 25 degrees, which is faster. Wait for about a month for the water to become clear and transparent.

The tank must be set up properly, otherwise new tank syndrome will easily occur and fish will die.

4. Feeding

Although goldfish are omnivores, you should pay attention to the proper combination of nutrition in their diet and avoid feeding them too much of a single food. Goldfish can eat animal and plant food. Live food includes fish worms, bloodworms, water earthworms, and insects of suitable size. Plant food includes yellow algae, diatoms, green algae, duckweed, duckweed, water plants, bran, bean cakes, noodles, rice, bread, etc. There are also ready-made goldfish feeds sold in the market.

5. Water quality maintenance

In daily breeding, it is necessary to maintain good water quality, change water and clean filter cotton in a timely and reasonable manner.

Normally, it is changed every three or four days in summer, once a week in spring and autumn, and once every half a month in winter.

Timely salvage of excess bait and fish excrement to reduce water pollution.

Adjust the temperature of the fish tank according to seasonal changes.

Test the pH value of the water regularly to check whether the water in the tank is suitable for goldfish to survive.

If you have no basic knowledge of fish farming, it is recommended that you learn more and master some fish farming information to avoid fish deaths.
