Turtles are easy to raise. Here is how I raise them: I keep them in a pond, and give them a meat meal every day at noon. I use pork (pure lean meat, no fat, turtles prefer meat with a little blood), or liver, fish liver, or animal liver. I brush them with a small brush every day, using some soap. If the sun is good on weekends, I put them on the balcony for a while, and then take them back after a few hours. After the end of October, the tortoise will not eat much and will enter hibernation. This depends on the temperature. If the temperature is high, hibernation will be delayed, and vice versa. I live in Nanjing, so you can roughly estimate it. In order to let the tortoise hibernate well, I must ensure nutrition in summer and autumn. Basically, every meal is enough, and the meat is also very good. After hibernation, the tortoise will not eat or drink, and its head will shrink in the shell. At this time, put it in a cardboard box, put some newspapers, rags, foam, etc. in the cardboard box. When it gets cold, it will naturally get into the cloth, and then put the box in a warm room. During hibernation, I will take it out every twenty days or so and put it in warm water (warm water means water that is not too cold and the temperature should not be too high). Then I will feed it some food and let it bask in the sun. Then I will put it back to hibernate. I think turtles are easier to raise than other animals, they are not troublesome, and they are also auspicious. Sometimes I am too busy to feed them, but it doesn't matter. Because in the wild, turtles only eat once every half a month or even a month on average. Turtles are amphibians, so the place where they live should be relatively humid, but not too much water. A more convenient way is to put them in your own pool, which is relatively humid. Or a more advanced way is to make a water tank, half of which is water and half is dry land. The water should not be too deep, not higher than the turtle's back. But I recommend the former, which is convenient and easy, and the turtle will be happy. It is convenient to feed and clean. If you want to keep the turtle wild, just get some live fish and shrimp, and it will basically finish them all in one noon. When I was a child, I once teased a turtle and put it in a fish tank. As a result, this guy went on a killing spree and ate many fish, especially the fry, one by one. Although turtles will eat any food, you must be especially careful if you keep feeding them cheap food with low nutritional value, as this may cause nutritional imbalance. What do turtles eat? Turtles need a lot of calcium and should be fed foods that contain a lot of calcium. Recently, a nutritionally balanced feed specifically for turtles has been launched on the market, which can be eaten with confidence. What else do turtles eat? In addition to the above, carp feed and dog food are also very popular with turtles. Occasionally feeding some boneless fish, snake meat, mice and other fresh food will surely win the turtle's favor. Feeding only fish and meat slices will cause malnutrition, and water-soluble nutrients need to be added. The above introduction is the food provided to turtles that often live in water. What do land turtles eat? Land turtles, such as tortoises, which do not go into water and prefer plant-based food, are not suitable for artificial feed. Generally, leafy vegetables, cabbage, carrots and other vegetables can be used with nutritional supplements to feed them. You can also use the feed of the bobwhite bird to feed turtles. Do not feed high-fat or salted bait to avoid symptoms such as indigestion. In early spring, the turtle has just woken up, its activity is weak, and the temperature is stable. Do not feed too much. Feed once every 3 days, preferably between 11 and 14 o'clock. In spring and summer, young turtles should be fed twice a day, preferably between 8 and 9 in the morning and 5 and 7 in the afternoon. In autumn, the temperature changes greatly in the morning and evening, so feeding should be done between 10 and 11 noon, once a day. The amount of feeding should be enough to be eaten within 1 hour after feeding. When the temperature is 20 to 33°C, the turtle can eat normally, and the food intake is the largest at 25 to 28°C. When the temperature is 15 to 17°C, most turtles have stopped eating and are less active, and a few turtles only eat a small amount. As the ambient temperature gradually decreases, the turtle enters hibernation. Do not feed turtles or feed them in small amounts when the temperature is below 15 degrees. Because of the temperature, turtles are prone to indigestion or gastroenteritis. As for what kind of food is good, the small fish sold in the flower and bird market are good, and the nutrition is relatively comprehensive, and the turtles like to eat it. For other food, you can feed pure lean meat, but never feed fat meat. Turtles like to eat meat and vegetables, but they don't like to eat them unless they are hungry. As for the turtle feed sold in the flower and bird market, I think it is difficult to judge whether it is good or bad. It is recommended to feed small fish as the main food for 5 days a week, and feed meat, bloodworms, shrimps, and snail meat for the other 2 days. The main purpose is to maintain nutritional balance. For growing turtles, you can add some ground cuttlefish bones to the food to prevent and treat rickets. If you want to improve the disease resistance and vitality of the turtle, then feed vitamins once a week. Of course, general agricultural vitamins are cheaper, but I don’t know where to buy them, and vitamin tablets for humans are more expensive (Golden Shierkang, Centrum, etc.). The feeding method is the same as feeding cuttlefish bones, grind them into powder and mix them in the turtle’s food, but the amount is very small, just a little bit will do. One more thing, the eating habits of turtles are acquired after birth. For example, when feeding fish, some turtles are cautious and will not eat at first, and will only eat after being hungry for a while. In addition, you cannot feed turtles frozen or hot food. Fish or meat in the refrigerator must be thawed before feeding, and try to keep it at the same body temperature as the turtle. Turtles are cold-blooded animals, and eating too cold or too hot food will also cause gastroenteritis. Eat the dried shrimps sold in supermarkets. My little turtle loves to eat them. It also eats lean meat and fish. I can feed it the cooked and mashed ones. |
