Can crayfish be raised in indoor pools?

Not suitable for indoor use

It is OK to breed crayfish in cement pools, but you need to pay attention to some matters to avoid contamination of crayfish. After the pool is built, it should be used after a period of time. Before use, the pool should be soaked and washed to remove most of the contamination of the pool concrete. At the same time, in order to maintain the acid-base balance of the water in the pool, some acidic substances should be put in the pool to neutralize the alkali released by the cement. Ensure the purity of the water. You can consult professionals for specific precautions!

Can crayfish be raised at home?

Yes, crayfish are extremely adaptable and have a wide range of suitable growth temperatures. They can grow and develop normally at water temperatures of 10-30°C. They can also withstand high temperatures above 40°C and can safely overwinter at temperatures below -14°C.

Crayfish inhabit permanent streams and marshes, temporary habitats including ditches and ponds. In streams they are often mixed with plant or woody debris, which can damage and weaken banks. In areas where floodwaters have receded, they can be found in simple burrows. They live in shallow, grassy wetlands, lakes and ditches.

Additional information

Nutritional value of shrimp: Shrimp contains 20% protein, which is one of the foods with a high protein content. It is several times or even dozens of times that of fish, eggs, and milk. Compared with fish, shrimp does not contain a high amount of valine, an essential amino acid for the human body, but it is a nutritionally balanced source of protein. In addition, shrimp contains glycine. The higher the content of this amino acid, the sweeter the shrimp will taste.

Compared with fish and poultry, shrimp has less fat and almost no animal sugar as an energy source. Shrimp has a high cholesterol content and is rich in taurine, which can lower human serum cholesterol. Shrimp is rich in potassium, iodine, magnesium, phosphorus and other trace elements and vitamin A.

Crayfish can be raised at home, as follows:

Crayfish breeding method

1. Choose a Pond

The water source requires fresh water quality, sufficient dissolved oxygen, and no pollution. Loam clay is preferred, the pond ridge width is more than 3 meters, the slope is 1:2.5, the water depth is 0.8-1.5 meters, the pH value is 7.5-8.5, the pond area should not be too large, generally 3-8 acres are appropriate, rectangular, east-west. When injecting new water into the pond, filter it with 20-40 mesh gauze to prevent wild fish and fish eggs from entering the pond with the water flow. According to the pattern of high irrigation and low drainage, build the water inlet and outlet channels to ensure that irrigation can be carried out and drainage can be carried out. Crayfish have a strong ability to escape, and anti-escape facilities must be well constructed. Usually, plastic film, mesh, calcium plastic board or cement board are used to set up anti-escape facilities around the pond ridge to prevent harmful organisms from entering and crayfish from escaping.

2. Pond cleaning and disinfection

Pond cleaning and disinfection can effectively kill harmful organisms (catfish, loach, snakehead, snakehead, rat, etc.), wild fish (carp, crucian carp, etc.) and pathogens in the pond. Quicklime and bleaching powder can be used, which is economical, affordable and safe. The specific operation method is: 1. Quicklime disinfection. Dry disinfection: Use 70 kg of quicklime per mu, dissolve it in water and sprinkle it all over the pond. If conditions permit, use a nail rake to rake it. After a week of drying the pond, inject new water; water disinfection: Calculate the water depth of 1 meter per mu of water surface, dissolve 130 kg of quicklime in water, and sprinkle it evenly throughout the pond. 2. Bleaching powder disinfection. After completely dissolving the bleaching powder containing 30% effective chlorine, sprinkle it evenly throughout the pond, with a dosage of 25 kg per mu.

3. Planting aquatic plants

"Whether the lobsters are good or not depends on whether there are grasses in the pond. Whether the lobsters are big or not depends on the grasses in the pond." Water plants play an important role in lobster farming. First, water plants can make up for the lack of lobster bait and supplement a large amount of vitamins; second, they can prevent wind and waves, absorb some harmful substances in the water, purify the water quality, and balance the water environment; third, they can provide shelter and habitats for young shrimps and molting shrimps, reducing the strong bullying the weak. Generally, the planting area of water plants should account for half of the total area of the pond. Optional varieties: low-stem reeds, wild rice stems, elodea, verticillasters, etc. If conditions permit, you can also put some waste such as empty cans, bamboo tubes, and tree roots at the bottom of the water body. These are the favorite habitats of crayfish.

4. Fertilization of shrimp pond

What are the methods for raising crayfish? Some people think that it doesn't matter whether the pond for raising crayfish is fertilized or not. In fact, applying an appropriate amount of organic fertilizer to the shrimp pond before the lobsters are released can cultivate bait organisms and provide natural bait directly for the shrimp after entering the pond. Use 400 kg/mu of fermented organic fertilizer to maintain the corresponding fertility of the pond water. During the breeding process, as the water level gradually deepens, it is necessary to apply decomposed organic fertilizer. The amount and time of selection depend on the fatness of the water. Generally, no more than 80 kg each time is appropriate. The transparency of the pond water is maintained at about 35 cm.

5. Lobster farming

The release of lobster seedlings is divided into spring and autumn release. The requirements are that the specifications are neat, the appendages are complete, the disease-free and injury-free, and the stocking is sufficient. Before stocking, wash with 5% salt water for 5 to 10 minutes to kill parasites and pathogens. For purchased shrimp seeds, because they are transported away from water for long distances, the seedlings should be soaked in the pond water for 1 minute before entering the pond, lifted and set aside for 2 to 3 minutes, and then soaked for 1 minute. Repeat this 2 to 3 times to allow the seedlings to absorb enough water on the body surface and gill cavity before stocking, which can improve the survival rate. According to the many years of experience of farmers, the survival rate of shrimp seedlings shipped out is very low after long-distance transportation. Properly raising some silver carp and bighead carp in the pond can improve water quality and make full use of bait resources. 1. Stocking of grow-out shrimp in spring. In mid-March, 5,000 to 6,000 young shrimps with a body length of 3 to 5 cm were released. 2. Stocking of broodstock shrimp in autumn. Around September, 500 manually selected lobster broodstock were released per mu, with a male-female ratio of 3:1.

6. Feed selection

Lobsters are omnivorous, so animal feed, plant feed and various artificial feeds should be used together at different stages. Animal feed mainly includes small fish pieces, dried fish meal, snail and mussel meat and various animal offal scraps; plant feed mainly includes rapeseed cake, soybean meal, bran, wheat, corn, pumpkin and various vegetables and aquatic grass.

Half of Wuhan crayfish farmers suffer losses

Half of Wuhan crayfish farmers suffer losses

In restaurants in Wuhan, Hubei Province, a plate of braised crayfish has increased from 48 yuan to 68 yuan, but it is still in great demand. However, crayfish farmers are not happy about the price increase. A person in charge of the Wuhan Crayfish Association recently revealed that nearly half of the more than 2,000 crayfish farmers in Wuhan are currently in a loss-making state.

Zhang Jianqi, 52, was the head of the logistics department of Wuhan Sanhuan Group. He was laid off in June last year. At that time, when crayfish farming was in full swing, he and three friends invested 350,000 yuan in shrimp farming, but have now recovered less than 1,000 yuan. Wang Changguo, a farmer in Xinzhou District, used to be in the veterinary medicine business and invested more than 600,000 yuan in shrimp farming, but has now recovered very little of the cost.

Chen Zhongsheng, vice president of the Wuhan Crayfish Association, revealed that most of the farmers who suffered losses were "newbies" who entered the industry in the past two years. In the past, the investment in crayfish farming could be recovered within one or two years, and considerable profits could be obtained. Statistics from the Wuhan Agricultural Department show that in 2005, the area of crayfish farming in Wuhan was only more than 7,000 mu, and it soared to 20,000 mu in 2006. As of now, the city's farming area has reached 120,000 mu, which is 17 times that of three years ago. Kuang Kaihe, an expert at the Municipal Aquatic Science and Technology Promotion and Training Center, said that nearly half of the farmers were trapped. In addition to the snow disaster, the more important reason is that the farmers lack scientific farming technology. In addition, many farmers are eager for quick results and lack the ability to control the market.

Farmer Zhang Jianqi pinned his hopes on this year. He said: "If I can't get back 100,000 yuan by the end of the year, it will be difficult to survive." After a year, Zhang Jianqi lost 11.5 kilograms. He reminded farmers that they must be cautious when investing in shrimp farming, and must fully consider the risks and tolerance, and must not act hastily.

Kuang Kaihe, an expert from Wuhan Aquatic Science and Technology Extension and Training Center, analyzed the four major factors that cause farmers to suffer losses.

First, many new crayfish farmers lack technology and management, resulting in low quality and yield of crayfish, and the size of crayfish has a great relationship with the price.

Second, there is a lack of a good attitude towards the market price fluctuations of crayfish, and more than half of the farmers miss the best fishing period due to unsatisfactory prices.

Third, the snowstorm at the beginning of the year caused a large number of crayfish to be frozen to death, and shrimp farmers suffered losses of 20% to 30%.

Fourth, last year, farmers rushed to buy crayfish seedlings, and the supply was insufficient. Crayfish seedlings that cost a few yuan per 500 grams were sold for dozens of yuan. In order to pursue the so-called high-quality shrimp seedlings, many farmers purchased seeds from Anhui, Hunan, Jiangxi and other places at high prices, and suffered a lot of losses during long-distance transportation.

Chen Zhongsheng, vice president of the Wuhan Crayfish Association, said that the peak period for crayfish trading is from May 15 to June 12 each year. Subsequently, processing companies gradually stopped export processing, out-of-town consumption also began to weaken, and the overall market demand declined. However, many farmers did not seize these market opportunities. Moreover, the life cycle of crayfish is generally only two years, so stockpiling is not recommended. Chen Zhongsheng believes that the low price impact of out-of-town shrimp and local wild shrimp is also a factor that many farmers are trapped.

Nearly half of the farmers are losing money. Does this mean that the market is beginning to decline overall? Huang Haibo, director of the Wuhan Municipal Agriculture and Fisheries Department, said that last year, the city's crayfish farming area reached 100,000 mu, the output reached 14,300 tons, and the output value was 183 million yuan, of which more than 8 million US dollars were earned from exports, all of which increased significantly compared with previous years. Judging from the processing, export and market conditions of crayfish in recent years, the crayfish industry still has a bright future. However, farmers need to adjust their mentality and enhance their ability to control the market. He also revealed that Wuhan plans to expand the crayfish farming area to 150,000 mu by the end of the year, and strive to expand it to 300,000 mu in 2010. As time goes by and the breeding technology becomes more mature, the output value will gradually enter a stable harvest stage, and the benefits will be further highlighted.

He suggested that the government encourage qualified citizens or farmers to invest in breeding, but does not encourage speculation, nor does it encourage citizens who do not meet the conditions to invest blindly.

Crayfish are saprophytes, so it is best not to keep them at home.

I hope you don’t have any bad feelings before, after, or in the future.

Have you ever been to the countryside or suburbs? The wild ones are all in the ditches along the roadsides.
