CATDOLL: Is sea urchin in season?

The growth and development of sea urchins go through the stages of fertilized eggs, embryos, larvae, young sea urchins, and adults. In factory farming on land, the shell diameter of sea urchins can generally increase from about 1 cm to about 6 cm 13 months after seedling cultivation, and the meat yield can reach 18%.

So how long does it take for sea urchin seedlings to grow to the adult stage for breeding?

First, we have to catch the seed sea urchins from July to October, and then temporarily cultivate them in the tanks for the selection of larvae. On the second day of the selection, when the sea urchins hatch for 24h to 48h, we feed them. After the larvae grow to about 3mm to 5mm, we continue to cultivate them for 3 to 12 months before we can start sea farming. The whole cycle is about one year.

The cycle of sea urchin farming is relatively long. Whether it is the stage of cultivating adults at sea or the stage of cultivating larvae indoors, we must monitor the water quality at any time and observe the growth and development of sea urchins to change the farming method in time. As a farmer, we must always pay attention to various abnormal situations, seize the opportunity, accumulate experience, and learn advanced science and technology to cultivate sea urchins with high economic value.
