CATDOLL: How to best stock shrimp fry?

As shrimps from all over the country enter the peak harvest period, most shrimp farmers have finished the first crop of production, and many have entered the second crop of shrimp breeding. When choosing to buy shrimp seedlings, you should choose shrimp seedlings from shrimp seedling factories with high production capacity, large scale, complete equipment, preferably with parent shrimps laying eggs, good reputation, convenient transportation, and close distance.

Precise measurement of water quality and disease inspection in shrimp ponds

Accurately measure the temperature, salinity and pH value of the shrimp fry pond, which should not differ too much from the water quality indicators of the pond to be stocked. Randomly sample shrimp fry for nucleic acid testing, and do not accept shrimp fry with viruses.

Specifications for high-quality shrimp fry

Model and body color. The body length of Penaeus monodon is about 1.2 cm, and the best color is gray-black; the body length of Penaeus fasciatus is about 0.8 cm, and the best color is completely transparent. The shrimp fry are plump, detailed in shape, with smooth skin, without any appendages on the body, without any damage or deformity, and the group grows evenly and neatly.

The shrimp fry has plump muscles, a full stomach, and can jump flexibly. It reacts very flexibly to external stimulation. The edge of the thorax of the shrimp fry is not curled, the eyes are clear and symmetrical, the eye stalks are open, the antennae are closed, and the tail fan is extended. The shrimp fry has a strong ability to swim upstream and has the behavior of sticking to the wall. The strong electrolyte spoon can quickly distribute the fry evenly.

Buy shrimp fry

Two days before buying the shrimp seedlings, put 30-50 healthy shrimp seedlings in a 1 square meter 40-mesh cage in the pond and circulate the water. If the survival rate is above 90% after 24 hours of free-range culture, the seedlings can be released. Otherwise, it means that the pond water is not suitable for releasing the seedlings. When buying shrimp seedlings, you should choose seedlings from the same batch, preferably from the same pond. Count the number of seedlings as accurately as possible and buy enough at one time.

Transporting shrimp fry

Before transporting seedlings, you should understand the weather conditions and it is best to choose a sunny day for transportation.

Fertilize the water before releasing shrimp fry

During the whole process of shrimp farming, it is necessary to fertilize the water to form basic bait microorganisms before releasing shrimp fry. By fertilizing the water, the phytoplankton in the water can maintain an appropriate density and sufficient growth state, absorb a large number of basic metabolites (nitrogen and carbon dioxide) in the water, and produce oxygen, promote the normal material cycle in the water, so as to achieve the self-improvement of water quality. Newly established shrimp ponds can use fermented organic fertilizers and biological fertilizers, and old ponds or muddy ponds can use microbial fertilizers or plant fertilizers and inorganic fertilizers.

After 5-7 days of fertilization, the water can generally be made up. When the water surface transparency reaches less than 30 cm, fertilization should be stopped; in the second half of the culture period, additional fertilizer and topdressing should be applied according to the water color and transparency, so that the water color and transparency meet the requirements of the water body during the seedling and culture period. By fertilizing the water, shaping good water color and transparency is the basis for the success of shrimp farming. During the fertilization process, we can add bacteria (such as Bangbang Ferment Source) to accelerate the dissolution of soil organic matter, enhance the effect of fertilization and keep the water quality fertile for a long time.

Properly handle the problem

Shrimp farming requires daily pond inspections, and one of the main aspects of pond inspections is to observe water color and transparency. Minor changes in water color and transparency must be handled promptly and properly; this work can be very simple or very complicated. The reason is that if experienced shrimp farmers understand the importance of water color and transparency in shrimp farming, they can deal with it promptly and properly with a spirit of urgency. The method is very simple, the cost is very low, the water color and transparency are adjusted, and the good water color and transparency are restored.

On the other hand, if you don’t know enough about this and don’t handle it properly, when the transparency in the pond increases again or becomes turbid, the problem occurs. If you try to save it, it will take a certain amount of time to restore the original water color and transparency. The money spent may not be effective. The damage may be very large, and even lead to the failure of shrimp farming. There are many examples in this regard, and we should take this as a warning. This is very important for shrimp farmers who are farming shrimp for the first time.
