The normal body temperature of a cat is 38.5 to 39.5 degrees. The body temperature of a kitten is higher than that of an adult cat, and its temperature after exercise is higher than that when it is at rest. The temperature is generally measured through the rectum. The rectal temperature is more intuitive and accurate. When measuring the temperature, use a mercury thermometer and insert it spirally into the anus, about one-third of the way in. Keep it still for 30 seconds to one minute. The cat needs to stay still and quiet.
