You can also have two people cooperate, one holding a flashlight and the other picking it up.

The bottom should be closed and the top should be open. The opening should be wide enough to fit your hand in, making it easier to catch the eels. 5-8 thin bamboo strips should be woven 7-8 cm from the bottom of the cage, forming a small opening with barbs about 5 cm in diameter, so that the eels can freely enter from the outside but cannot exit the cage.

(2) Preparation of bait: Use a bamboo tube about 20-30 cm long and 6-8 cm in diameter. Do not pierce the internodes at the bottom of the bamboo tube to prevent the bait from leaking out. Make several 6-7 cm slits around the tube at a height of 5-6 cm. These slits are called bait windows.

(3) Bait equipment: Rice field eels like to eat fresh live bait. When using eel cages to catch rice field eels, be sure to prepare enough fresh small fish, shrimps, live earthworms, pig liver or chicken liver, mix them with wood ash, take a small amount and put it into the bait tube. The meaty smell will slowly spread out from the bait window.

(4) Catch eels by placing a tube: Put the bait into the bottom of the bait tube, then insert it into the trap cage, and plug the cage mouth with a wooden plug or a grass ball. At around 6-7 pm in the evening from June to October, you can gently place the cage at the bottom of the pond, or you can place the trap cage next to the rice field ridge and press it down hard until it is 3-5 cm into the mud. Place 4-5 cages per square meter of water surface. After 1 hour, start taking out the cages to collect eels, and then collect the cages every half an hour. This method can achieve a catch rate of 70%-80%, and the survival rate of eels is also quite high. To catch eels using this method, one person can place some trap cages in different places.

5. How to quickly catch wild eels using ground cages?

Dig some earthworms from the ground, the bigger the better. Then cover the earthworms with some plant ash. After a while, the earthworms will die and turn into small ash sticks or ash threads. Then take some authentic high-concentration rice wine and spray it on these gray earthworms. After about an hour, let the wine penetrate into the gray earthworms. The bait is done.

6. How to catch eels in a cage?
