How to treat duck paralysis?

Duck soft leg disease is also known as duck paralysis. It can occur in ducks of all ages. It is usually more common in first-time laying ducks in winter or spring. It is more common in meat breeder ducks during the restricted feeding process. Ducks with mild disease will produce fewer eggs and slow development, and those with severe disease will die.

1. Causes of disease:

The damp site, poor ventilation of the duck house, especially when the ducks are kept in a house, lack of sunlight, insufficient exercise, excessive stocking density and crowding can all lead to the occurrence of this disease. Incomplete nutrition in the diet, especially calcium and phosphorus deficiency and imbalance, or vitamin D deficiency, are the main causes of the disease. In addition, zinc deficiency can also cause swelling of the tarsal joints and a series of changes in the bones, leading to the occurrence of soft leg disease. Bacterial diseases, especially arthritis, periarthritis, synovitis, and hyperplasia of connective tissue around the joints and joint deformities caused by Staphylococcus (Yiheganwei), are another cause of soft leg disease. When keeping the male and female ratios unbalanced, there are too many male ducks, pecking each other, which can easily cause leg paralysis. Female ducks can also suffer from leg paralysis due to being overwhelmed, especially female ducks with weak constitution and smaller size. Rough operations in daily management, catching ducks, vaccinating, weighing, and large-group stress can easily cause ducks to trample on each other and suffer trauma or tarsal joint injuries.

2. Clinical manifestations:

The joints of the two legs are swollen and deformed, and they are weak and difficult to walk. They cannot stand and are prone to falling when walking too fast or too hastily. In severe cases, they often land on the ground with their tarsal joints or wings, eventually leading to paralysis. When laying ducks are sick, they have difficulty drinking water and eating, and their egg production drops sharply.

3. Prevention and control measures:

(1) Keep the duck house dry and ventilated, and do a good job of sanitation and disinfection. Disinfect the drinking water with 0.01% Baidusai regularly, change the bedding frequently, graze and exercise moderately, and get more sunlight.

(2) To ensure a comprehensive supply of nutrients in the diet, the content of vitamins and minerals in the feed should be appropriately increased during the high temperatures in summer and in the late egg-laying period of breeding ducks.

(3) Strengthen feeding management to reduce the chances of scratches, bruises and other external injuries. Avoid rough handling to prevent stress reactions in large groups.

(4) During the egg-laying period, the ratio of male to female ducks should be appropriate (the normal ratio is 1.5:5.5).

4. Treatment methods:

1. Sick ducks should be isolated and treated promptly.

2. Inject 1-2 ml of colloidal calcium (containing 500 units of vitamin D per ml) into each duck's muscle every day, once for 2-3 consecutive days, and the disease will be cured. You can also feed each duck 10 mg of vitamin B1 and 0.5 mg of shell powder mixed in the feed. Severely ill ducks that are of no value for treatment should be eliminated.

3. It can be used with Xinte Yihesan and Gankangxin (Yihe Ganwei) for treatment. Gankangxin (Yihe Ganwei) in the morning and Xinte Yihesan in the afternoon. Use it for 3-4 days in a row to recover.
