What is the difference between laying hens and broiler chickens? How should we choose between them? How should we choose between raising laying hens and raising broiler chickens? Based on my observations and experience, I have known farmers of both models. Let me talk about their characteristics below. Layers: As the name suggests, it is the chickens that lay eggs. The main source of income is eggs. The income is earned by raising layer chickens on a large scale and selling eggs. I have a client who used to raise broilers, and now he has switched to raising layer chickens mainly because he has friends and resources who raise layer chickens. Raising laying hens requires professional breeding equipment and technology. A chicken house with 10,000 laying hens requires an investment of at least hundreds of thousands or millions of yuan. It also requires professional technology, feed formula, and channels for selling eggs. The feed cost of laying hens is about 0.3 yuan per chicken per day. When the market is good, eggs can be sold for 0.7 or 0.8 yuan. Finally, there is profit from culled chickens. Generally, white chickens and yellow chickens are raised, so those very cheap chickens you see in the market may come from laying hen farms. Of course, there are also farmers who raise free-range eggs. They are all free-range and require a certain range for the chickens to move around. The egg production rate is relatively low, but the nutrition is better and the price of eggs is also high, generally between one and a half yuan and two yuan. Broiler: This is what we all know as a delicacy on the table. Of course, there are many types of broiler chickens. In our rural areas, we usually raise native chickens, which are also a type of broiler chicken. They generally grow slower, but are more nutritious and tasty. The broilers of those companies and large farms are also mainly white and yellow. Take the chickens of KFC and McDonald's for example. They are all white-feathered chickens. They grow very fast and are generally ready for sale in 40 days. They can weigh up to 6-7 catties. The breeding conditions of this kind of chickens can be lower than those of laying hens, but certain techniques are required. Otherwise, the consequences of infectious diseases are disastrous. In addition, ordinary people like us raise broiler chickens, which come in many varieties and specifications, with weights ranging from 3 jin to more than 12 jin. It depends on the local market demand to choose which variety to raise. The above is the difference between laying hens and broiler chickens. You can determine which breed is suitable for you according to your own conditions, the surrounding seasonal changes and market demand. No matter which model you choose, you must first conduct market research, learn from predecessors, and constantly improve your own breeding technology. The most important thing in breeding is technology. Many farmers who lose money fail because they don’t know how to breed and manage. |
