What do grasshoppers eat?

Grasshoppers feed on plant leaves and mainly harm plants in the Poaceae family. They like to eat thick leaves, such as vegetables such as sweet potatoes, water spinach, and cabbage. They also like to eat crops such as corn, wheat, sorghum, millet, rice, sorghum, barley, as well as reeds, barnyard grass, white grass, dogtooth grass, shrimp grass, and some Artemisia plants .

The pest grasshopper has chewing mouthparts and its body color is green and brown, which is the protective color of its living environment. Its antennae are short whip-shaped and it has strong hind legs that can use bouncing to avoid natural enemies.

According to information, grasshoppers have large mouths and well-developed jaws. They are herbivorous insects that like to eat reeds, barnyard grass, white grass, dogtooth grass, wormwood, shrimp grass and sea salicornia.

There are more than 12,000 species of grasshoppers in the world, distributed in tropical and temperate grasslands and deserts around the world. Grasshoppers are pests. Because they lay a large number of eggs, if the climate is suitable in the first year, a locust plague may occur in the next year. The grasshoppers are everywhere, covering the sky and the sun, which is spectacular. Wherever they pass, the green of the fields disappears and the crops are lost. Therefore, protecting birds can prevent the occurrence of locust plagues.

However, grasshoppers are rich in chitosan. Nutrition experts believe that chitosan is known as the sixth major life element of the human body after protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Chitosan can increase the pH value of body fluids, improve the acidic environment in the body, remove free radicals in the human body, inhibit the damage of peroxides to human tissue cells, activate cells, delay aging, and eliminate toxins in the body, achieving the effect of detoxification and beauty (Japan uses chitosan as a preparation for sewage treatment). Therefore, chitosan is recommended as the last treasure of mankind in the 21st century.

Grasshoppers have extremely high medicinal value. According to the Compendium of Materia Medica, they can be used alone or in combination to treat a variety of diseases. They have the effects of relieving cough and asthma, detoxifying, and clearing rashes. They are mainly used to treat whooping cough, bronchial asthma, infantile convulsions, sore throat, rash, bronchitis, and spasms. They also have the effects of lowering blood pressure, reducing weight, lowering cholesterol, nourishing and strengthening the stomach and spleen, and long-term consumption can prevent the occurrence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. They can be used externally to treat otitis media, and frost-bitten grasshoppers can treat bacillary dysentery and enteritis. They are rich in nutrition, tender in meat, and delicious like shrimps. The structure of nutrients in the body is more reasonable than that of livestock and poultry.

Grasshoppers are low in fat and cholesterol, with a fat content of 5.25%. They mainly feed on green grass of the Poaceae family and do not eat other feed. It is reported that some patients with obesity, hypertension, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases currently tend to eat insects in order to lose weight and cure diseases. According to relevant experts, grasshoppers are the most ideal space food for humans in the future and the ideal food for weight loss and bodybuilding in modern society.
