CATDOLL: Classification and pathological changes of brucellosis in pigs

Types of Brucellosis in Swine

Brucellosis in pigs is a disease caused by infection with Brucella (Brucella), also known as Brucella disease. According to different clinical manifestations and pathological changes, brucellosis in pigs can be divided into the following types:

  • Acute type: Acute brucellosis in pigs is mainly manifested by high fever, mental depression, loss of appetite, organ enlargement, etc. The lesions mainly occur in the lymph nodes, spleen, liver, lungs and other organs.
  • Subacute type: Subacute brucellosis has milder symptoms, a slow onset, but a longer course. The main pathological changes are fibrosis and enlargement of the liver and spleen.
  • Chronic type: Chronic brucellosis has mild symptoms and develops slowly. The lesions are mainly manifested as systemic infiltrative lesions, including proliferation and fibrosis of lymph nodes, spleen, liver, lungs and other organs.

Pathological changes of brucellosis in pigs

The pathological changes of swine brucellosis mainly include the following aspects:

  • Lymph node lesions: Brucellosis in pigs often causes enlargement and congestion of lymph nodes, and in severe cases, necrosis, ulceration and fibrosis may occur.
  • Spleen lesions: Brucellosis in pigs can cause splenomegaly and fibrosis, and pathological changes include enlarged lymph follicles and connective tissue hyperplasia.
  • Liver lesions: Brucellosis in pigs can cause liver congestion, necrosis and fibrosis. The lesions are focal or diffuse.
  • Lung lesions: Brucellosis in pigs can cause lung lesions, including lung tissue necrosis, fibrosis and pneumonia, etc. The degree and severity of the lesions vary from individual to individual.

The typing and pathological changes of swine brucellosis are of great significance for the diagnosis and etiology research of the disease. Timely and effective treatment and control measures can reduce the impact of swine brucellosis on the pig industry.
