CATDOLL: flies and maggots (fly maggots)

1. Flies and maggots

Maggots are the larvae of flies. The development of flies is a metamorphosis, and the larvae and adults have great differences in form, living environment and habits. Flies lay their eggs in animal corpses or soil. Then they become maggots and then hatch into flies.

2. What are the benefits of fly maggots?

Among the fly species, at least 8 species are natural enemies of pests, so flies are beneficial insects and should be protected. High-purity chitin extracted from fly maggots is sold at more than 20,000 US dollars per gram, and 1 ton is more than 100 million yuan. Flies can secrete "antibacterial active proteins" and "anti-cancer active proteins".

Flies have an amazing ability to reproduce. A pair of houseflies can lay about 1,500 eggs in a growth cycle of 12 to 15 days. In the four months of summer and autumn when the breeding temperature is suitable, their offspring increase exponentially, reaching 267.6 billion maggots, which can accumulate more than 600 tons of pure protein. Maggot protein is a high-quality protein that can be used to extract protein powder and develop advanced nutritional products, and can be included in the ranks of superior natural "green food". In the production process, fat, antibiotics, lectins, etc. can also be obtained, which are all raw materials for industrial and pharmaceutical manufacturing. There is also a more valuable by-product, that is, maggot shells, which are the raw materials for extracting "chitin" with excellent purity. Chitin, like protein, fat, sugar, minerals, and vitamins, is a nutrient element that maintains human life. Chitin has a special effect on food preservation. The preservative made from it can keep fruits fresh for thousands of years. Surgical sutures made from chitin can prevent patients from developing inflammation and do not need to remove stitches. Artificial skin made of chitin, sodium alginate and other materials is specially used for skin grafting on burn patients.

Another feature of fly maggot food is that it contains antibacterial proteins that are essential for humans. Flies go in and out of dirty places and are surrounded by bacteria, but they are immune to all diseases. The secret lies in the "antibacterial active protein" and "anti-cancer active protein" that they can secrete in their bodies. Any virus can survive in the body of a fly for no more than 7 days. As long as there is a concentration of one ten-thousandth of fly antibacterial protein, it can kill a variety of pathogens. Its effectiveness is much more effective than all the antibiotics that humans have discovered so far. The anti-cancer function of flies should not be underestimated. Recently, scientists have used fly maggots as raw materials or carriers to further research and develop deep-level products, especially antibacterial and anti-cancer drugs.

3. Are flies and maggots two different creatures?

Biologically speaking, they are one kind of animal.

Maggots are fly larvae that undergo complete metamorphosis and become flies as adults.

Why are maggots soft and so different from flies with dry limbs?

This is because insects originated from annelids, so their larvae are relatively ancestral. You can imagine tadpoles in a similar way.

4. Are flies and maggots two different creatures? What is the relationship between them?

They are the same organism, and their relationship is that of an adult and a larva.

Well... it's similar to the relationship between silkworms and moths, and caterpillars and butterflies.
