1. If the big yellow eel dies, can the newly born baby yellow eels survive? What's going on? 2. Is the bite of wild eels poisonous?Wild eels are not poisonous and it is okay for them to bite people; Happy New Year! 3. How to breed eels better1. Reproduction and environmental conditions Yellow eel reproduces only once a year, from April to August, with the peak period from May to June. Its spawning cycle is relatively long. Before the breeding season of yellow eel arrives, the parent eel will dig a breeding hole. Generally, the hole is dug on the edge of the field ridge, and the hole entrance is usually opened in a hidden place on the field ridge. The lower edge of the hole is 2/3 immersed in water, and it is divided into the front hole and the back hole. The front hole is used for spawning. The hole is relatively wide at 10 cm long, about 5 cm high from top to bottom, and about 10 cm wide. The back hole is slender and used as a hidden residence. In larger water bodies or waters where it is inconvenient to dig holes, parent eels look for dense water plants, water plant roots, rubble, stone crevices and other hidden objects to make nests. 2. Natural sex ratio and mate composition In the whole reproductive period, the females outnumber the males in the yellow eel reproductive group. In February, female eels account for 91.3%. From June to August, the female eels gradually reverse their gonads after laying eggs. By September, the number of female eels gradually decreases to 38.3%. From October to December, the number of female and male eels each accounts for about 50%. In autumn and winter, people catch yellow eels and keep the small ones, so after the beginning of spring, there are still more females than males. The reproduction of yellow eels is mostly the offspring and parents, and there are also pairings with the male eels of the previous two generations. However, in the absence of male eels, a small number of female eels in the same batch of yellow eels reverse to male eels and reproduce with the same batch of female eels. This is the special feature of yellow eels that is different from other animals. 3. Natural spawning and hatching The abdomen of sexually mature female eels swells and is light orange (also grayish yellow), and some parent eels have a red horizontal line. Before spawning, the female and male eels spit foam to build a nest, and then lay eggs on the grass roots that fall from the top of the hole. The fertilized eggs and foam float at the entrance of the hole. The fertilized eggs are yellow or orange, translucent, and the egg diameter (after absorbing water) is generally 2 to 4 mm. Parent eels, especially male parent eels, have the habit of protecting eggs, and generally guard them until the yolk sac of the eel fry disappears. The foam that the parent eel spits out to build a nest generally has the following functions: first, it makes it difficult for the fertilized eggs to be discovered by enemies, thus protecting the eel eggs; second, it allows the fertilized eggs to float on the water surface, where the dissolved oxygen and water temperature are generally high (the suitable water temperature for hatching eel eggs is 21-28°C), which is conducive to increasing the hatching rate; third, the foam spit by the parent eel contains a substance that plays an important role in the hatching of eel eggs, but it has not yet been identified what this substance is. It usually takes 5 to 7 days for eel eggs to hatch from fertilization in water at around 30°C, and 9 to 11 days in water at around 25°C. In nature, the fertilization rate and hatching rate of eels can reach 95% to 100%. |
