CATDOLL: What do jellyfish eat?

1. What do jellyfish eat?

The breeding of jellyfish also varies according to the species. There are several points to pay attention to when breeding jellyfish in aquariums:

1 Water quality: First of all, the bubbles and water flow in the jellyfish breeding box are the most important issues that need long-term attention, and then the importance of aeration. There is a certain balance of ecology in the ocean, which will not be discussed in detail here. Nitrogen and carbon dioxide in the water are beneficial to the symbiotic algae "single-cell zooxanthellae" in the jellyfish body, but methane and ammonia are harmful to these algae. In addition, jellyfish are very sensitive to nitrite and do not like to change water frequently. Therefore, it is very important to establish a complete water quality in the process of breeding jellyfish. We can add nitrifying bacteria to the jellyfish aquarium in small amounts and multiple times to assist in the establishment of the water quality system. Bubbles have different effects on different jellyfish. Among them, the moon jellyfish is the most afraid of bubbles. The "transparent body" type. Bubbles accumulate in the jellyfish wings and cause holes in the jellyfish wings. The other two common types are sold in the fish street: pearl jellyfish "with spots all over the body" and colored jellyfish "too many blue and white bodies". The threat of bubbles is not so great. However, these jellyfish are also not suitable for growing in a strong water flow environment. Too strong water flow will separate the wings and mouth of the jellyfish.

2 Water temperature: The most suitable temperature for raising jellyfish is 25 degrees. A water chiller is an essential tool for raising jellyfish. If the temperature is too high, the activity of the jellyfish will decrease, and then they will sink to the bottom of the tank and die.

3. Change water: The amount of water to be changed varies depending on the number of jellyfish and the size of the tank, but change the water at least twice a month. Try not to hurt the jellyfish, do not suck up the jellyfish when draining, avoid the generation of bubbles when adding water, and do not add water too quickly....etc.

4. Co-breeding with other organisms: Some aggressive fish and crustaceans will snatch the bait attached to the jellyfish or attack the jellyfish directly, so try to choose gentle fish species. As for soft-bodied fish, although they have low mobility, their poisonous tentacles are masters at catching jellyfish, and jellyfish may be preyed on at night.

5. Jellyfish feed: Jellyfish feed on plankton in the water, but in an aquarium, it is impossible to provide water full of plankton and organic matter. Therefore, the bait is mainly brine shrimp. It is also necessary to supplement jellyfish liquid feed, seawater trace elements, and seawater rotifer feed specifically for soft bodies. Jellyfish have a simple digestive structure and can also be fed with this easily decomposed feed. When the digestive organ and mouth in the jellyfish's wings turn orange, it means that the jellyfish is full. Please do not feed too many times and in too much quantity. Because the water quality is easy to deteriorate.

5. Light: There are symbiotic algae "single-cell zooxanthellae" in the jellyfish's body. The nutrients produced by these algae through photosynthesis are supplied to the jellyfish. The nitrogenous waste produced by the jellyfish's metabolism is provided to the single-cell zooxanthellae in the body. The relationship between the two is interdependent, so light is important in jellyfish aquariums. Providing jellyfish aquariums with appropriate coral basket lights can provide single-cell zooxanthellae for photosynthesis. With coral lights as the main source, the lighting time does not need to be specially strengthened.

I hope my answer can help you!

2. What do jellyfish eat?

Jellyfish are also called jelly fish. Two or three years ago, Taiwan followed the trend of raising jellyfish in Japan and launched a breeding boom. Whether on the streets, night markets, or department stores, you can see a transparent aquatic animal that moves up and down in a regular rhythm - jellyfish - being sold everywhere.

Jellyfish belong to the class Scyphozoa and the phylum Cnidaria. They may seem very fragile at first glance, but they have been on Earth for more than a billion years! Their unique reproduction method may be the biggest reason why they can still survive today.

Jellyfish are dioecious, and have a typical sexual/asexual reproduction alternation of generations, i.e., the polyp form in the attached period and the jellyfish form in the floating period. There are male and female in the jellyfish stage, and they reproduce sexually by laying eggs. After the larval stage, they enter the polyp stage, which is completely different from the jellyfish stage in shape and life form. In the polyp stage, they reproduce asexually by budding and their numbers increase rapidly, and they grow into jellyfish form. Jellyfish can reproduce sexually and produce fertilized eggs as long as they are sexually mature in the larval stage. After hatching, they attach to the disk and become polyp form. This is a special way of survival in which these two types alternate with each other.

Basically, a special tank is prepared for the reproduction of jellyfish. The bottom sand is filtered, the temperature is controlled at about 18℃-25℃, the specific gravity is 1.023-1.025, the light is about 8-10 hours a day, and the water is changed about once a week. The tank is placed with the jellyfish polyps collected in good condition. The polyps are 2-3mm long, have 16 tentacles, and are generally milky white in color. Feed them once a day, and use a straw to blow the newly hatched brine shrimp or rotifers directly onto the polyp tentacles. After about 3 weeks, the polyps will turn white, and it seems that the condition has deteriorated. In fact, this is the state of completing the polyp stage and preparing to enter the jellyfish stage.

Afterwards, it will split and bud and replicate to more than 10, and the color will turn brown. When mature, the jellyfish larvae will swim out from the front one by one. The remaining foot disc will return to the original polyp state after 3 months. Rotifers or brine shrimp larvae, fish and shellfish gravy, JM plankton (powder), VG microbial nourishment, NEW AMINO new amino acid soft food, etc. can be used as a source of nutrient feed for the polyp and jellyfish stages. Large jellyfish can be fed with mysid shrimp or juvenile fish, so that they will not be malnourished and become smaller and smaller.

Note:

(1) Prevent air bubbles from entering the stomach cavity.

(2) When changing water, if the specific gravity difference is too large, the jellyfish will sink to the bottom and will not swim.

(3) Jellyfish have weak swimming ability, so the breeding tank can be designed with reverse water flow.

Please accept if you are satisfied.

3. What do small jellyfish eat?

For the hydra and jellyfish stages, rotifers or brine shrimp larvae, fish and shellfish gravy, JM plankton (powder), VG microbial nutrients, NEW AMINO new amino acid soft food, etc. can be used as a source of nutritional feed. For large jellyfish, mysid shrimp or juvenile fish can be fed so that they do not become smaller due to lack of nutrition.

4. Could you please tell me what jellyfish eat? Thank you!

Especially small fish and shrimp, as well as plankton.
