CATDOLL: Can soft-shell turtles eat alligator snapping turtle food?

1. Can soft-shelled turtles eat alligator snapping turtle food?

Soft-shell turtles cannot eat alligator snapping turtle food.

Turtle breeding method

1. Placement and cleaning of the bait table

The feeding table is best placed on the edge of the pond and at an angle of 30 to 45 degrees to the water surface, which is conducive to the turtle finding food and avoiding interference. Before each feeding, use a mild disinfectant and a sterilized brush to clean the feeding table and its surroundings, and disinfect once every 3 days.

2. Preparation and placement of bait

The amount of fresh feed added is generally 10% to 40%. When using fresh feed, it must be disinfected, cleaned, and prepared immediately to avoid spoilage. Feeding should be done in the form of throwing, and the bait can be 2 to 3 cm away from the water surface. Soft-shelled turtles are timid, so try to minimize interference with them when feeding. The amount of feed should be eaten in 1 to 1.5 hours. The remaining bait should be collected in time for other uses. In the hot season, the feeding time should be finished before sunrise and start feeding at sunset.

3. Water quality regulation

The aquaculture water should be regularly replaced and the sewage discharged. The amount of water changed each time should not exceed 1/3. If conditions permit, the effect of micro-flow aquaculture will be better. During the aquaculture process, 0.5 to 1ppm of chlorine dioxide, 2 to 3ppm of bleaching powder, 1 to 2ppm of strong chlorine, and 15 to 40ppm of quicklime should be regularly used for full pond spraying and disinfection. After 2 to 3 days of application, about 5ppm of photosynthetic bacteria preparations should be sprayed throughout the pond to regulate the water. 1 to 2 times a month is sufficient.

4. Planting green on the water surface and building a sunbathing platform

In the pond, a 1.5-meter-long and 1.5-meter-wide frame is built about 1 meter away from the bait spring surplus feed platform, and water hyacinth is planted. Water hyacinth has a well-developed root system, which can absorb harmful substances in the water and play a role in regulating water. It is also beneficial for turtles to hide, bask in the sun, and enjoy the cool. Aquaculture ponds with less slopes on the side of the pond should build a basking platform in the pond.

5. Patrol the pond regularly and remove dead turtles promptly

The purpose of patrolling the pond is to timely understand the turtle's feeding, growth activities, pond water quality, facilities, etc.

Turtle breeding ground

Selecting and building a turtle breeding site is the first step in artificial breeding and farming of turtles, and it is also a key step in laying a good foundation. The scale of a turtle breeding site can be large or small, depending on the funds of the turtle breeder. It can be a single pond or a turtle breeding site consisting of dozens of ponds; it can be open-air, or covered with a plastic shed or a greenhouse. Regardless of the size of the site, the following principles should be followed when choosing:

1. The turtle pond should be built in a sunny and quiet place to avoid being frightened, which is conducive to the growth of turtles.

2. The soil of the turtle pond should be clay or loam, which is conducive to water retention. If sandy soil that is easy to leak is used, effective anti-seepage measures must be taken.

3. The water source must be of good quality and clean. Water from rivers, lakes and reservoirs is best, and well water must be heated by drying ponds.

2. Which one is stronger in a fight between a giant soft-shell turtle and a giant alligator turtle? (Those who have videos can post them, and those who don’t can vote. Voting is limited to 20 people.)

3. What is the difference between turtles and tortoises?

The turtle is also a tortoise. The biggest difference between the turtle and the tortoise is that the turtle has a smooth thin skin on its head, while the tortoise's head is covered with scales. The feet of sea turtles such as the hawksbill turtle are fin-shaped, and their horny mouths are sometimes curved and pointed, shaped like an eagle's beak.
