CATDOLL: What kind of fish is parrot fish?

1. What kind of fish is parrot fish

Parrotfish (scientific name: Amphilophus) or parrotfish, parrotfish, scientific name Roselle neck fin fish, genus of the wrasseniidae, commonly known as parrotfish, parrotfish, red wedge snapper, etc., is a tropical fish that lives in coral reefs. It is named because of its bright colors and parrot-like beak. There is also a freshwater ornamental fish bred by hybridizing the male red manta ray of the American cichlid and the purple-red firemouth, which is also called blood parrot because of its bright red body color.

Parrot fish are tropical fish that live in coral reefs

Also called parrotfish.

Any of about 80 species of tropical coral reef fish of the family Scaridae in the order Perciformes. They have long, deep bodies, blunt heads, brightly colored bodies, and large scales. They have sclerotized palatine teeth that are used to scrape algae and soft corals from coral reefs. The teeth are strong and leave a noticeable pecking mark on corals. They can also grind food and coral fragments with the plate-like teeth in their pharynx. They can reach 1.2 meters (4) in length and weigh up to 20 kg (45 lb). Their coloration varies greatly between males and females of the same species and between adults and juveniles. Parrotfishes are edible, but the group as a whole is of little economic value. The banded parrotfish (Callyodon fasciatus) is the dominant parrotfish of the Indo-Pacific region. It is 46 cm (18) long, with green-orange or green-red males and blue-yellow females. The Atlantic species includes the Queen Parrotfish (Scarus vetula), which is about 50 cm long. The male is blue with green, red and orange, while the female is reddish or purple with a white stripe.

Parrotfish are deep-sea fish that live in coral reefs. Every time the tide rises, parrotfish of all sizes, wearing green and yellow coats, swim from the deep water of the slope outside the coral reef to the shallow reef flats and lagoons. Parrotfish have a special digestive system. Parrotfish use their plate-toothed beaks to gnaw coral polyps together with their skeletons, grind them with their throat teeth, and then swallow them into their stomachs. Nutritious substances are digested and absorbed, and coral debris is excreted from the body. The throat teeth of parrotfish are not as sharp as teeth, but have evolved into strips of stone. The upper jaw surface of the throat teeth is raised, just in line with the concave part below. There are rows of fine and sharp small teeth on the upper and lower jaws. The small teeth are densely arranged to form many sharp-edged plates. Every time a large group of parrotfish swims by, the tops of coral branches are cut off, revealing white stubble. When parrotfish reproduce, the male fish first spreads sperm. Then, the female fish spreads eggs in the center of the sperm. This reproduction method can only fertilize some of the eggs. And only a few of them can become lucky. Some people say that parrot fish are poisonous, but some people say that parrot fish are not poisonous. What is going on? It turns out that parrot fish themselves are not poisonous. It's just that some of the food of parrot fish is poisonous. Parrot fish have organs that break down and digest toxins. Therefore, parrot fish will not be harmed by these toxins. However, if people catch parrot fish at this time and the toxins in its body are not completely removed, then the toxins in the food of parrot fish will be transferred to humans who eat parrot fish. Therefore, many fishermen advise greedy eaters not to eat parrot fish.

There is also a fish that is a hybrid of a male red devil and a female purple-red firemouth, also called parrot fish, specifically blood parrot fish.

Parrot fish is the most beautiful fish I have ever seen, especially the pink one, which is so cute. Its price varies from region to region and can differ by as much as ten times.

A. Freshwater fish. It is a hybrid of the flamingo fish (a type of arowana) and the purple firemouth fish. Parrot fish cannot reproduce. So parrot fish is also called water mule.

Taiwanese people breed them themselves, the person on the second post is right.

3. Why does the parrot fish turn white?

Parrot fish (details)

Parrot fish are brightly colored and red all over. In the homes of many ornamental fish enthusiasts, we can see many parrot fish being used for landscaping. However, some aquarium enthusiasts often encounter the problem of parrot fish discoloration. A blood-red parrot fish may fade after being raised for a period of time, and may even fade to white. Why is this?

1. Reasons

1. Pigment injection. This is what unscrupulous traders do to sell parrot fish at a good price. After being injected with pigment, the pigment gradually disappears after returning, so you must pay attention when choosing parrot fish.

2. Environmental changes. When parrot fish first arrive in a new environment, their color will turn white for a while, but they will gradually turn back to white once they have adapted. Don't worry too much.

3. Water quality deteriorates. If you do not add new water for more than 4 days, the parrot will turn white in an environment where the water quality deteriorates. Therefore, generally change the water every 2-3 days, and change one-third or one-quarter of the water each time.

4. The temperature is too low. Although parrot fish have strong adaptability to temperature, they are actually quite sensitive to temperature. When the water temperature is low or changes dramatically, their color will turn white.

5. Feed problem. Parrot fish can only turn red by eating feed with red pigment added. It may be a problem with your feed. You should buy feed with red pigment effect to feed them, otherwise its color will gradually turn white.

6. Frightened. Red parrots may fade after being frightened, so it is best to keep the environment quiet when raising fish.

7. White spot disease. If the parrot fish is infected with white spot disease, the color of some parts may fade or even turn white.

2. Solution

If the color of parrot fish becomes lighter for more than 3 months, it will basically not return to its original color. Therefore, it is necessary to change the feed in time after discovering the problem. Gradually adding color-enhancing particles to the feed will make the color better. First, feed the original feed and the new feed together, and gradually adjust to the new feed. In addition, if the fish tank is in a room that is not facing the sun, increase the light by two hours a day. The light tube should also be replaced with a red light.

Saprolegniasis often infects injured tissues and dead eggs on the body surface, forming a grayish-white cotton-like covering, also known as cotton wool disease or water cotton wool disease. Also known as skin mold disease or white hair disease, it is one of the fungal diseases of aquatic fish. More than ten pathogens that cause this disease have been discovered so far, among which the most common are Saprolegnia and Cotton mold. The disease is caused by fungi parasitizing the surface of fish, mainly Saprolegnia and Cotton mold of the Saprolegniales family of the Saprolegniaceae class of the phylum Mastigomycetes.

treat

1. Formalin

100~250ppm, flow bath for 1 hour.

2. Salt

1~1.5%, 20~30 minutes.

3. Malachite green

Eating fish is prohibited.

4. Antibiotic treatment is required when mixed bacterial infection occurs.

5. Methylene blue 2ppm can be used again the next day to achieve good results. There is no need to change the water in time, and the water color will become lighter as the drug decomposes. You can consider changing the water appropriately after 3 days. Preventive measures:

⑴Prevention of Saprolegniasis in Fish

① Remove excess silt from the bottom of the pool and disinfect it with 200J/L quicklime or 20J/L bleaching powder.

② Strengthen feeding management, improve fish resistance, and try to avoid fish injuries.

③ When broodstock are injured during artificial breeding, 10% potassium permanganate aqueous solution can be applied to the injured area. If the injury is serious, 50,000 to 100,000 units/K fish of streptomycin need to be injected intramuscularly or intraperitoneally.

⑵Prevention of fish egg saprolegniasis

① Strengthen parent fish cultivation, improve the fertilization rate of fish eggs, and choose sunny weather for breeding.

② After cleaning the fish nest, boil it for disinfection (for fish nests made of palm bark), or use salt, bleaching powder and other drugs to disinfect (for fish nests made of polythene grass, duckweed, etc.).

③ Clean and disinfect the spawning pool and hatching equipment.

④ Using water sprinkling for incubation can reduce the occurrence of Saprolegniasis.

⑤ Do not allow too many fish eggs to adhere to the fish nest, otherwise the fish eggs underneath will suffocate and die due to lack of oxygen, and then be infected with water mold, which will further endanger the health of the fish eggs. <Collapse

First of all, you need to understand

If fish are kept in a dark place, they will gradually turn white.

So you have to give them enough light to shine on!

Suggestion 1: Increasing the lighting time to more than 10 hours a day is good for the fish's body color. 2. Your feed may be too monotonous. It is recommended to add some frozen bloodworms or shrimps and other high-protein baits, which will help the fish's body color. Don't worry, your parrot's color will get better and better after a while.

The white body of parrot fish is caused by Saprolegniasis.

The cause of Saprolegniasis is mostly due to carelessness during the fishing and transportation of ornamental fish, which may cause the fish skin to be injured, or parasites to invade and damage the skin. The spores of the mold invade the wound, absorb nutrients, and germinate rapidly. One end of the hyphae goes deep into the muscle, and the other end grows outward, forming cotton-like hyphae. When the mold first parasitizes, it is difficult to see with the naked eye; by the time the naked eye can see it, the hyphae have already invaded the fish wound and grown from the outside to the inside. The hyphae entangle and adhere to the cell tissue of the wound, causing tissue necrosis. As the number of cotton-like hyphae increases day by day, the fish body is overloaded, causing abnormal swimming, loss of appetite, and gradual weight loss, leading to death.

When ornamental fish are infected with mold, they are also affected by the length of time they are exposed to light. Long periods of continuous rain or insufficient indoor lighting, sunlight, and other light sources can promote the growth of mold. The skin of fish infected with mold is usually covered with a layer of white film, especially black and red fish, which is most obvious, thus losing the luster that the fish should have. Subsequently, the fish become sluggish and often appear sluggish, floating on the water surface. If not treated in time, the mold on the fish will spread, the muscles of the affected area will rot, the appetite will be lost, and eventually death will occur.

[Treatment Method] Dermatophytosis can occur all year round, but is most common in early spring and late winter. In order to prevent the occurrence of saprolegniasis, care should be taken to avoid damaging the fish and parasite bites during operation, and a small amount of salt can be added to the water to inhibit the occurrence of saprolegniasis.
