How to choose shrimp

1. Curved body. Fresh shrimps should have complete heads and tails, which are closely connected to the body. The shrimp bodies should be relatively straight, with a certain degree of elasticity and curvature. If the shrimps you choose have loose connections between the head and body, the shell and the meat, the head and tail are easy to fall off or separate, and cannot maintain their original curvature, then it is very likely that they are not fresh shrimps, and it is more likely that they have become dead shrimps.

2. Dry body surface. The surface of fresh shrimp is clean and feels dry to the touch. But when the shrimp is about to deteriorate, the granular cells under the carapace that secrete mucus will disintegrate, and a large amount of mucus will seep into the body surface, which will feel greasy to the touch. If the shrimp shell is sticky, it means that the shrimp has deteriorated.

3. Bright color. The color of shrimp varies slightly depending on the type of shrimp. Fresh prawns, lobsters, and grass shrimp are blue, sea-caught prawns are pink, and bamboo shrimps and mud shrimps have black and white patterns with a hint of pink. If the shrimp head is black, it is not fresh. If the whole shrimp is dark and dull, it means it has gone bad.

4. The meat and shell are tightly attached. The shell and meat of fresh shrimps are tightly attached. When you peel the shrimp meat with your hands, the shrimp meat sticks to your hands and you need to use a little force to peel off the shell. The intestinal tissue of fresh shrimps is also tightly attached to the shrimp meat. If it is loose, it means that the shrimp is not fresh.

5. No peculiar smell. Fresh shrimps have a normal fishy smell. If there is a peculiar smell, it means that the shrimps have gone bad.

What is the difference between shrimp and prawns?

The difference between shrimp and prawns:

1. Difference in size

Normally when we buy shrimps, we can actually distinguish them easily by their size. After all, because shrimps come in different types, they also have different appearances and sizes. For example, compared to shrimps, prawns are much larger. And shrimps are also divided into male and female. Generally, female prawns are larger than male ones.

2. Difference in color

In addition to the size of the shrimp, another thing to consider is the color of the shrimp shell. Generally, when the shrimp grows to a certain stage, the color of its shell will change and fade. For example, the shell color of the prawn will turn blue-gray, while the shell of the mud shrimp will be yellowish, and there will be a little red in the shrimp feet.

3. Difference in price

Compared to mud shrimp, the growth environment of prawns is more demanding, so the output is not as good as mud shrimp, so the price will be a bit higher. Generally, the price of mud shrimp is maintained at around 100 yuan, while the price of prawns changes greatly according to the size of the shrimp, and the price of several yards is over 100 yuan.
