CATDOLL: How to keep soft-shell turtles in winter

1. How to raise soft-shelled turtles in winter

Turtle hibernation usually starts in early November of the year and ends in May of the following year. Turtle likes to burrow into soft sand for hibernation, so you need to prepare the sand. If you want to add water, use small stones to form a slope and put the water halfway up the stones.

In winter, water quality management is more stringent than in other seasons. The ammonia nitrogen content is the most likely to deteriorate in winter shed water quality indicators. Generally, it is ideal to control it below 0.3ppm. Excessive ammonia nitrogen content can easily cause gastrointestinal discomfort in turtles and lead to skin rot, mouth rot and other diseases.

If too little bait is fed before winter, the turtle will not have enough nutrients and will be too short of calories. Therefore, proper feeding is needed. It is best to plant a water plant in the tank, put some sand and small stones, and use a covered fish tank to prevent the turtle from swimming away. 1. Feed the turtle with sufficient feed. During the spawning period and before hibernation, the turtle should be fed with fresh, high-nutrition complete feed, and the feeding amount should be appropriately increased.

2. If there are too many organic matter in the water, please change the water in time.

3. Do not scare the turtle. During the hibernation period of the turtle, do not allow people and animals to walk around the fish pond frequently, so as to avoid scaring the turtle and affecting its normal hibernation.

4. For soft-shelled turtles that have lost the ability to enter water, you should choose a sunny and warm place to let them bask in the sun first, and then put them into the fish tank after they have regained their ability to move.

2. How to raise soft-shell turtles in winter

Soft-shelled turtles like to live in the sand, so it is recommended to feed them with clean river sand. In addition, it is best to feed them with fish entrails (you can go to the market and ask the fishmonger for some), and small soft-shelled turtles can also be fed with fresh meat, which will not affect their growth. Soft-shelled turtles like to grow in a quiet environment. It is recommended to keep them indoors at the current temperature, and do not change the water too frequently, and the water level should not be too high. Let them receive some sunlight appropriately. Soft-shelled turtles are very tenacious and relatively easy to raise.

3. Do soft-shelled turtles survive the winter? How to breed them in winter?

1. Ensure good water quality. The quality of water directly affects the breeding effect of soft-shelled turtles. If the pond water is too rich or even smelly, it is not only bad for the growth of soft-shelled turtles, but also affects the taste of their meat. Generally, clean river water is added to the pond once every week or so, and the total amount accounts for about a quarter of the original pond. Clean the remaining food on the table regularly. In addition, plant water hyacinths that account for about half of the total pond. This can not only purify the water quality, but also provide a hidden and quiet place for soft-shelled turtles, and try to meet their natural living habits.

2. Do a good job of disease prevention. For ponds with convenient drainage and good escape prevention facilities, stock 2-3 turtle fry of basically the same size (50-100 grams) per square meter. Sprinkle the entire pond with 30-50 grams of quicklime per cubic meter of water every 15 days or so. Unless there are very special circumstances, it is forbidden to step on or catch turtles in the pond. At the same time, use bamboo rafts to build several sunbathing platforms for the turtles to bask in the sun.

Although this method of raising turtles takes a long time, it takes about three years from seedlings to 500 grams of commercial turtles, including two hibernation periods, but its economic benefits are good. The cost of feed and seedlings per kilogram does not exceed 60 yuan, and the rest is income. This method is suitable for family breeding in small water bodies. For the current stage of planting industry, it is a good project and worth promoting.

Because the turtle is carnivorous, I feed it some small fish and shrimp, which I cut with scissors and then feed it. Other small insects are also fine, such as mealworms bought at the flower and bird market. However, if you only have one, you don't have to buy it, because the small turtle has a small appetite. It would be a waste if you buy too much, and you still have to feed it mealworms. In addition, rice bugs and other things are also fine. As long as it eats, you can feed it

But it is winter now, and turtles are cold-blooded animals. When the temperature is so low, they have almost no ability to move and cannot eat. So you should get a small basin, put a little water in it, preferably rice water, and then put it in a dark place to let it spend the winter. As long as it survives this winter, when spring comes and the weather gradually warms up, around mid-April, it will begin to recover its vitality again. At this time, you can feed it a lot of food. As long as it eats a lot, it will grow very fast. It's very interesting.

4. How to feed hibernating turtles in winter?

Are you raising a soft-shell turtle or a tortoise? The feeding methods of soft-shell turtles and water turtles are the same. The water temperature should not be lower than 22 degrees. They like to eat raw meat, fish, shrimp, and turtle food.
