CATDOLL: Does earthworm water contain toxins?

Abstract: Is earthworm water poisonous?

Does earthworm water contain any toxins?

The water sprayed by earthworms is not toxic. The mucus of earthworms is not toxic. Earthworms are beneficial insects. They can loosen the soil, and their excrement is a good fertilizer for plants. Earthworms can also be used for fishing.

There is yellow liquid on the earthworms, which is the secretion of the earthworms. It will not cause any harm to the human body. However, the liquid secreted by the earthworms has a very unpleasant smell, so it is better to stay away from them.

Earthworms, a reptile belonging to the genus Annelida, are known as "ecosystem engineers". Earthworms are saprophytic animals, mainly distributed in Asia and South America. Earthworms have a cylindrical body, bilaterally symmetrical, segmented, and no bones. They are invertebrates, with a naked body surface and no cuticle. Earthworms are hermaphroditic and cross-fertilized. During reproduction, they produce egg cocoons through the annulus to reproduce the next generation.

Earthworms are any of the terrestrial annelids in the class Oligochaeta; especially the widely distributed hermaphroditic earthworms of the family Lumbricidae. They are round, long and soft, ugly in appearance, and often burrow in the mud, which can improve the soil and benefit farming.

According to measurements, the protein content of earthworms is about 53.5% to 65.1% of the dry weight, the fat content is about 4.4% to 17.38%, the carbohydrate content is about 11% to 17.4%, and the water content is 7.8% to 23%. Earthworms are also rich in vitamin D, as well as mineral elements such as calcium and phosphorus. Earthworms contain a variety of medicinal ingredients such as earthworm extract, earthworm detoxification, xanthine, antihistamine and vitamin B.

The effects of earthworms: clearing away heat, calming wind, relieving asthma, unblocking meridians, and diuresis. Modern pharmacological research has also proved that earthworms do have a variety of pharmacological effects such as antipyretic, sedative, anticonvulsant, relieving asthma, and lowering blood pressure.
