How do cicada pupae come from?

It is the cicada that crawls out from the ground and sheds its shell!

Artificial propagation of cicada pupae:

Cicadas are also called "zhiliao". In taxonomy, cicadas belong to the subclass Pterygota, order Homoptera, family Cicadidae. Cicada pupae are nutritious and delicious, and have become a delicacy for people and are served on the table. In the past, cicada pupae were all bred and grown naturally or harvested manually, which was far from meeting people's living needs. In recent years, some people have begun to carry out artificial breeding. Each cicada pupa can be sold for more than 10 cents, and one mu of land can make a profit of hundreds of yuan.

--Morphological characteristics. The cicada pupa is bent with its head bowed, and its legs and claws are mostly clasped together. It is about 3 cm long and 2 cm wide, and the whole body is yellow-brown. There are two eyes on the head that are slightly protruding. The forehead is protruding with yellow-brown fine hairs. The muzzle is well-developed, the upper lip is wide and short, and the lower lip is elongated into a tube. There are three pairs of feet on the chest, the front pair has teeth; the back two pairs are slightly slender, with fine hooks on the toes, and all have yellow-brown fine hairs. There are two pairs of small wings on both sides of the middle, the front pair is long, and the back pair is short. The back and abdomen are round and plump, with curved lines. From the abdomen to the tail, there are 9 sections, each with brown horizontal stripes. The body surface is shiny.

——Life history of cicadas. The life of cicadas goes through three stages: egg, nymph (pupa), and adult. After mating, female cicadas pierce the bark on the tender branches of trees with needle-shaped ovipositors and lay eggs in the tender branches. When the branches die due to lack of water supply, the branches (egg branches) with cicada eggs fall under the tree due to the action of wind and rain, and gradually sink into the soil. After a period of time, the nymphs of the first eggs will attach to the roots of the trees and begin to suck the sap. After about 3 years, the nymphs mature and quickly drill out of the soil. After 3 to 5 hours of emergence, they can transform into adults. The abdomen of male adults has a sound organ, which can continuously make a sharp sound of "Zhi Le, Zhi Le". Therefore, cicadas are also called "Zhi Le". They die after chirping for about 20 days.

- Collect and bury cicada eggs. In late autumn, break off dead branches from trees that have been sucked by cicadas, collect them, and bury them under trees or in the courtyard at a depth of about 30 cm. Each egg branch has about 100 cicada eggs, and 5 to 6 branches can be buried per square meter. Water and tamp them down. In places with many trees, you can bury them every year. In order to make it easier to dig them up next year, they are usually buried in a straight line or a "田"-shaped square.

-- Capturing and processing cicada pupae. After the cicada eggs are buried in the ground, they are alive and grow by sucking the juice from the roots of trees. After about 3 years, they gradually develop into pupae, and the pupae molt into adults. Every year when the cicadas are just heard during the wheat harvest, a 10-centimeter-high plastic wall should be built around the branches where the eggs are buried. The wall should be tilted inward as much as possible to prevent the cicada pupae from escaping. The base of the tree trunk should also be tightly surrounded by plastic cloth, not less than 30 centimeters high, to prevent the cicada pupae from crawling along the tree. After sunset, around 8 to 10 p.m., the cicada pupae will come out of the hole one after another and gather in large numbers at the base of the tree trunk, making them very easy to catch.

After catching cicada pupae, they should be pickled with salt immediately, with the amount of salt being 10% of the pupae weight. After pickling, they can be eaten or sold on the market. They can also be pickled and then dried for storage.

The shell shed by cicada pupae when they turn into adults is called cicada slough in Chinese medicine. It is also known as cicada shell, cicada clothing, insect slough, fairy clothing, etc. It is a very good Chinese medicinal material, which has the effects of removing rheumatism, acne, detoxification and itching, and can treat dizziness, aphonia, pediatric convulsions, night crying, etc. Selling the collected cicada sloughs to Chinese medicine stores is also an income.

——Things to note when breeding:

Plot selection: Cicada pupae can be raised under 3-5 year old fruit trees or in a small forest, but be careful not to make the land too humid to avoid affecting the growth and development of cicada pupae.

Collect cicada eggs. The eggs of cicada pupae are densely packed on the annual branches of fruit trees or other trees, making them easy to identify. Late autumn and early winter are the best times to collect cicada eggs.

Planting and management. When burying the collected cicada eggs under the tree, if it is dry weather, you can spray some water appropriately. At the same time, you should also pay attention to drainage to prevent flooding. Usually, you should strengthen the fertilization and management of trees to ensure the good growth of trees, so as to provide sufficient nutrition for cicada eggs.

Reproduction of cicadas?

Know

[Explanation] Cicada is named because its call sounds like "cicada".

Cicada is a Hemiptera insect, there are 120 species in my country. When summer comes, it will stand on the tree and chirp endlessly, the sound can be heard from far away, and it is also because of its chirping sound that it is called cicada.

Cicada is an insect, also known as "zhiliao". There are many species. The male cicada has a sound-making organ in its abdomen, which can make continuous and loud sounds; although the female cicada also has a sound-making organ in its abdomen, it cannot make any sound.

The larvae live in the soil, sucking the roots of plants, and after living underground for 4 years, they will drill out of the ground and show off their talents for a while. The adults only suck the juice of plants.

The life of a cicada goes through three different stages: egg, larva, and adult. The eggs are laid on trees, the larvae live underground, and the adults return to the trees. After mating, the male cicada completes its mission and dies soon. The female cicada begins to lay eggs. It uses its sharp ovipositor to pierce small holes on the branches, laying four to eight eggs at a time. It often pierces dozens of holes on a branch. Then the female cicada stops eating and drinking and dies soon. The eggs overwinter in the branches, and the larvae hatch in the summer of the following year with the help of the warmth of the sun.

There are many kinds of cicadas in the world, more than 3,000 species, and about 200 species are known in my country. In my country, with vast land, cicadas can be heard all year round. In spring, there are "spring cicadas", which shout "wake up - wake up" when they sing; in summer, there are "summer cicadas", which shout "too hot - too hot" and "cicada - cicada" when they sing; in autumn, there are "autumn cicadas", which shout "I give up - I give up" when they sing; in winter, there are "winter cicadas", which shout "over - over" when they sing.

Why do cicadas like to sing passionately and shout at the top of their lungs? Fabre, a famous French entomologist, was puzzled. He lived to be over 90 years old and devoted his life's energy to the study of entomology. He wrote a collection of research papers of more than 1 million words - "The Insect Book". He had observed and studied cicadas for many years and made extremely vivid and detailed descriptions. He described the chirping of cicadas as follows: "In the cavity behind the wings of the cicada, there is a musical instrument like a cymbal. It is not satisfied yet, and it also places a kind of castanets on its chest to enhance the intensity of the sound. This cicada has indeed made great sacrifices to satisfy its hobby of music. Because of this huge castanets, there is no place for the vital organs to be placed, so they have to be squeezed into the smallest corner. The internal organs are reduced in size to accommodate the musical instruments. This is of course a great enthusiasm for music."

What are the living habits and reproduction experience of cicadas?

Cicadas usually reproduce one generation every 3 to 4 years, and overwinter as eggs and nymphs in the wood of tree branches and soil. The mature nymphs emerge from the ground between June and July. They usually emerge from the ground between 8 pm and 6 am, with the peak emergence time being between 9 pm and 10 pm.

After emerging from the soil, the nymphs will climb to nearby trees to molt, which takes about 2 hours to complete. When the adult emerges from the shell, the wing veins are green and the body is light red. Later, the wings will gradually spread out, and the wing veins and body color will gradually darken, and they will gradually climb up the tree before dawn.

After the adult cicadas emerge from their pupae, they first suck the sap of plants to replenish their nutrition, and then begin to chirp, the purpose of which is to attract female cicadas.

Male cicadas usually start to sing when the temperature is above 20 degrees. When the temperature reaches above 26 degrees, many male cicadas sing together, which is called group singing. When the temperature reaches above 30 degrees, these male cicadas not only sing for a long time, but also sing more often and louder.

This cicada has a certain degree of gregariousness and group migration. From 8 to 11 a.m., they migrate in groups from big trees to small trees; at 6 to 8 p.m., they migrate in groups from small trees to big trees.

The adult has a strong flying ability, but generally only migrates short distances. If the tree trunk is shaken, it has a certain tendency to move towards light and fire at night. If there is no external force to shake the tree trunk, its tendency to move towards light and fire is not obvious.

The life span of an adult is 45 to 60 days. The ratio of males to females is very unbalanced at different stages. In the early stages of eclosion, males outnumber females by 6 to 7 times, but at the peak of eclosion, the number of males and females is equal. At the end of eclosion, there are more females than males, and females outnumber males by 6 to 7 times.

After mating, the female cicada lays eggs in the branches of plants, causing the branches to die. The eggs hatch in the dead branches between June and July of the following year and fall into the soil. They live underground for 3 to 4 years, molting once every June to September.

The nymphs are usually found underground at depths of 2 to 30 cm or deeper. Young nymphs are mostly attached to lateral roots or fibrous roots, while older nymphs are mostly attached to thicker roots.

During the period of life in the ground, the nymphs leave a small ventilation hole the size of a grain of rice on the ground, where they live.
