2. What are the names of grasshoppers?

Grasshopper, grasshopper, locust.

Locusts, commonly known as "grasshoppers", belong to the order Orthoptera, including species of the superfamily Tetrigoidea, Eumastacoidea, and Locustoidea. There are more than 10,000 species worldwide, and more than 1,000 species in my country. They are distributed in tropical and temperate grasslands and desert areas throughout the world.

Locusts mainly include migratory locusts and ground locusts. In my country, there are three types of migratory locusts: the East Asian migratory locust (Locusta migratoria manilensis (Meyen)), the Asian migratory locust (Locusta migratoria migratoria (Linnaeus)) and the Tibetan migratory locust (Locusta migratoria tibitensis Chen);

Among them, the East Asian migratory locust has the widest distribution range in my country and causes the most serious damage. It is the main type of locust that causes locust plagues in my country. It mainly harms Poaceae plants and is an agricultural pest.

Additional information:

Life history:

Locusts are generally facultative diapause insects, and most of them overwinter as eggs in egg capsules in the soil. Only a few species, such as the Japanese yellow-spine grasshopper and the short-legged spotted grasshopper, overwinter as adults. The number of generations that occur in a year depends on the biological characteristics of the species and the annual effective accumulated temperature, food, light, and growth and development of each stage of the insect in different regions.

For example, the Asian migratory locust has one generation per year in the distribution area of my country. The East Asian migratory locust has two generations in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the areas to the north of it, while in the high temperature and drought years in the Yangtze and Huaihe River basins, it has three generations or incomplete three generations; in South China, it has four to five generations. The Chinese rice locust has one generation in the Yangtze River and the areas to the north of it, and two generations in the south of the Yangtze River.

1. Embusa 2. White-faced Katydid

4. Introduction of Grasshopper

The grasshopper's ears are not on its head but on the underside of its body. The cricket, a close relative of the grasshopper, has its ears on its knees.

After mating, the female grasshopper lays her eggs in an egg sac, which is buried in the soil to prevent it from being discovered by enemies.

The stripes and spots on a grasshopper's body help camouflage it, making it difficult to spot. Some grasshoppers are quite skilled at camouflage.

The grasshopper relies on its long hind legs and good jumping ability to escape danger. When escaping, it can jump and fly at the same time.

Each grasshopper species has a unique call, which is important because different species cannot mate with each other, and female grasshoppers need to know whether the "call" they hear is coming from a male of their own species.
