How to artificially hatch golden cicadas

Hatching is very simple. As far as I know, there are two types. One is to use pots, racks, and boxes for hatching. The hatching rate is very low. About 20% is very good. The other is to use artificial branches to simulate the natural underground environment for hatching. The hatching rate is as high as 80%. If you really want to understand this industry, you should learn more about it.

I hope my answer can help you.

When is the best season to collect cicada egg branches? How to preserve the collected egg branches?

After the golden cicada emerges from the ground in July, it will become a cicada. Generally, experienced people can see the branches where the cicada lays eggs on the treetops at the end of July. The cicada's egg-laying period lasts until August. In August, during the beginning of autumn, it is hot and dry during the day, and it is also a season with more rain. It is better to keep the egg branches naturally on the tree during this period! If you collect egg branches in August, most of the branches have not completely dried up at this time. After collecting and pruning, tie about 100 branches into a small bundle. If you encounter continuous dry weather, you can soak the branches we collected in water and soak them thoroughly. Then, after fishing them out, drain the water and place them vertically in the shade in the yard. Do not expose them to the sun. After natural wind, frost, rain and dew, they will be moisturized! The temperature in autumn is still around 30 degrees. You should pay attention to the continuous high temperature weather and spray the egg branches with water to keep them moist. It is best to use a sprayer to spray them thoroughly in the evening. Once a week is enough. Do not spray water too frequently, otherwise the egg branches will become moldy and rotten. In severe cases, it can lead to the death of the eggs. If there is slight mold, you can put it in the sun to dry, but pay attention to prevent ants and spiders. The weather in winter is very cold, and the egg branches lose less water, so just spray a little, or move it indoors for storage.

After the egg branches are collected, they should be pruned manually. The egg branches are naturally stored in a cool and humid room without special management. The egg branches are preserved. After the spring of the second year, the golden cicadas will enter the hatching stage in April and May. As the temperature begins to rise slowly, the weather is getting drier and drier. In April, you should start spraying water on the golden cicada egg branches once a week to keep them at a certain humid temperature. In fact, the golden cicada eggs begin to develop and grow slowly after the temperature rises. After hatching in May, it is easy to hatch small cicada ants, and the hatching success rate will be greatly improved. The egg branches are well preserved, the temperature rises, and the changes of cicada eggs are observed more. More light and more water are added. The hatching rate of artificially bred golden cicadas will be about 80%.

Generally, you can collect them after the golden cicadas emerge from the ground! However, for easy identification, you can collect them when the trees begin to dry up! That is, after November! After collecting, store them until they start to hatch in April of the following year! They are usually planted after more than 20 days of hatching and stored in a cool and dry place.

The cicada branches with eggs collected directly from the wild or from the seed source site are concentrated indoors to promote hatching.

Hatching method: In a plastic box 70 cm long, 40 cm wide and 20 cm high, spread 5 to 10 cm thick fine dry sand at the bottom, place the egg branches in bundles vertically or horizontally on it, and spray mist with a small sprayer frequently to maintain high humidity around the branches with eggs, so that excess water droplets are adsorbed in the fine sand at the bottom. Control the temperature of the hatching room at 28℃~34℃. The hatching of eggs should be checked continuously in the middle. When nymph activity is found, the branches and fine sand can be placed in the breeding place. The incubation time of wild cicadas is one to two years, which can be completed in 35 days in the incubation room. In the wild environment, due to adverse environmental factors such as wind, snow, rain and frost, as well as the presence of natural enemies such as ants and parasitic wasps, the hatching survival rate of cicada eggs has been less than 3%. Artificial hatching also protects the young cicadas, and the hatching survival rate of cicada eggs is greatly improved.
