CATDOLL: How long can clams be kept at home?

If the clams are fresh, they can survive for about 2 days if soaked in salt water. How many days the clams can be soaked depends on their freshness. Generally speaking, the clams will start to show their heads after being soaked for about 30 minutes. It is recommended to soak them in salt water with a suitable ratio. During the soaking process of the clams in salt water, they will slowly spit out mud and sand. Wash the clams repeatedly after spitting out the sand, and then they can be cooked.

It is normal for clams to open during the process of being soaked in salt water. This is because the clams are spitting out sand. To determine whether the clams are fresh, you can touch their tentacles with your hands. If the tentacles can be retracted, it means that the clams are still fresh. The storage of clams has high requirements for temperature. For fresh clams, it is suitable to be stored in water at 0-4 degrees. Therefore, it is recommended to put the soaked clams in the refrigerator.

Living habits:

It lives in shallow seas several meters deep below the intertidal zone. It is mostly found on the muddy seabed. It is distributed along the coast. It can be caught in all seasons and is one of the most commonly used seafood for residents. It lives in sandy or muddy intertidal zones and shallow seas, especially in estuaries. It digs sand and mud with its axe feet, buries itself in the mudflats, and lives on the bottom. It is distributed along the coasts of Guangdong and Fujian. Its breeding season is from October to November every year.

Clams are widely distributed in the southern and northern seas of my country, with a higher production in the coastal areas of Fujian and Guangdong, with the season being in late spring and early summer. They grow rapidly, have a short breeding cycle, are highly adaptable, and can survive out of water for a long time. They are a shellfish suitable for artificial high-density breeding, and have been cultivated in large quantities in Quanzhou Bay, Weitou Bay, and Shenwan.

Use salt water, the concentration of which should be about 3% (3g salt plus 100, the OP can adjust it by himself). Too low or too high will kill it. If possible, put some seaweed in the fish tank, change the water every few days, and it can be cultured for a long time.

How to store live fresh clams (Sakura sakura) overnight? People living by the sea do this and it works fine for a few days!
