CATDOLL: Comparison of pictures of the differences between silver carp and bighead carp, and key points of breeding technology

Silver carp and bighead carp differ in belly marks, body color, head proportion, taste, bait and fishing methods. In terms of belly marks, silver carp has a ridge like a crease on its belly, while bighead carp has a smooth belly without creases; in terms of body color, silver carp is covered with white scales and is silver, while bighead carp has black or yellow spots on its body.

1. Comparison of pictures of the difference between silver carp and bighead carp

1. The difference between silver carp and bighead carp

(1) Different abdomen: The belly of silver carp has a ridge like a crease, while the belly of bighead carp is relatively smooth and has no crease.

(2) Different body colors: Silver carp is covered with white scales and appears silvery, while bighead carp has black or yellow spots on its body.

(3) Different heads: The head of silver carp is relatively small, accounting for one quarter of its body length, while the head of bighead carp is relatively large, accounting for half of its body length.

(4) Taste: Silver carp has many fine bones, which makes it inconvenient to eat. Bighead carp has a more delicate texture, and has more meat in the head.

(5) Differences in edible baits: Silver carp prefers a mixture of sour, sweet and smelly odors, while bighead carp prefers a mixture of fishy, fragrant and smelly odors.

(6) Different fishing methods: When fishing for silver carp and bighead carp, the floating fishing method is generally used. However, when fishing for silver carp, the distance between the fish hook and the water surface is about 40 cm, while when fishing for bighead carp, the distance between the fish hook and the water surface is about 60 cm.

2. Characteristics of Silver Carp

(1) Silver carp have poor tolerance to low oxygen levels. When there is a lack of oxygen in the water, they will immediately float to the surface.

(2) Silver carp grows fast, has a high yield, and reaches sexual maturity 1-2 years earlier than grass carp.

(3) Silver carp is lively and likes to jump, but it is not agile and is rather clumsy.

2. What are the key points of silver carp breeding technology?

1. Build a fish pond

To breed silver carp, a relatively large fish pond area is required, generally between 4-8 mu, and the water depth must be more than 2m.

2. Stocking fish fry

Before stocking fish fry, organic fertilizer should be used for cultivation, and the concentration of organic fertilizer should not be too high; generally, the time for stocking fish fry is in the summer of each year; the stocking methods are divided into single culture and mixed culture, and it is generally recommended to use mixed culture to improve economic benefits.

3. Daily management

During the breeding period of silver carp, the pond water should be kept fertile and have enough floating organisms for silver carp to eat. When feeding feed manually, the principle of timing, positioning, quality and quantity should be followed to improve the utilization rate of feed.

4. Winter management

Generally, in late autumn and early winter, the temperature will drop, and the activity of silver carp will decrease accordingly. When the temperature drops to 10℃, silver carp will stop eating. At this time, silver carp need to be taken out and kept in a deeper fish pond. Or, silver carp can be sold and then restocked with fry in the warmer season of the next year.
