What to do if the chicken lays small eggs?

When chickens first start laying eggs, some of them lay very small eggs due to their immature reproductive systems. Another situation is stress. If the chickens are stimulated externally, causing reproductive dysfunction, they may also lay deformed eggs, shaped like glass balls . So, do you know why laying hens lay very small eggs? What should I do if laying hens lay small eggs? Let's analyze the reasons below.

The reasons for small eggs:

1) The energy and protein in the feed are too low.

2) Insufficient feed intake.

3) Being underweight.

4) Light intensity is increased too early and too quickly, stimulating sexual maturity earlier than normal, causing the flock to lay eggs too early and with light eggs.

Prevention and control measures:

1) Provide feed with a reasonable ratio of energy and protein, especially before laying (around 110 days old), and gradually transition to laying hen feed over 10 days. The transition method is: 110 days old, 2/3 young chicken feed, 1/3 laying hen feed; 113 days old, 1/2 young chicken feed, 1/2 laying hen feed; 116 days old, 1/3 young chicken feed, 2/3 laying hen feed; 120 days old, regardless of whether laying begins or not, all feed laying hen feed.

2) Provide sufficient feed to the flock in strict accordance with feeding standards. Generally, each young chicken consumes about 0.22 catties of feed per day, and each laying hen consumes about 0.24 catties of feed per day.

3) Pay attention to the feeding of young chickens to prevent the chickens from being too light. At 110 days of age, take samples (20 out of 1,000) and weigh them at any time. The standard weight range should be 80%. If it is lower than 80%, it is necessary to increase the weight to prevent small eggs. If it is higher than 80%, it is necessary to limit the feeding to prevent the chickens from being too fat at the beginning of production, causing dystocia, etc., and high mortality.

4) When the chickens start laying eggs, the average egg weight should reach 33 grams. If it is less than 33 grams, you should check the reason. In addition, as the age increases, the egg weight gradually increases. If it increases slowly or does not increase, you should check the reason.
